Help! I have an Edelbrock 650 manual choke on a 345 4bbl squarebore and an automatic transmission and can't figure how to adjust the accellerator cable in combination with the kick down.

I had to trash the Holley and got a really good deal on the Edelbrock so I'm trying to use it. Per the advise of the Edelbrock helpdesk I did get and install the Chrysler accellerator kit.

The Scout II idles great but no giddy-up. I don't think the cable is pulling back far enough to open the secondaries and deliver gas. A semi could accellerate faster than me.

If this is really for the newbie section forgive me, but I wanted to hear from my fellow IHC folks first. Any help is appreciated.

Are the secondaries opening up all the way?

Starting point for kickdown adjustment:

Open your throttle all the way. Adjust linkage so kickdown is fully depressed. Take it for a spin and adjust to taste.

For the cable, I adjusted mine so that the throttle would be fully closed when the pedal was at it's fullest return point. Sounds like kickdown adjustment to me though. I had the same problem when I switched carbs...no gidddyup!

Hmm...NEWBIE! :flipoff2:

Chas,

The secondaries are free to open up all the way.

I think the problem is where to tighten the clamp onto the throttle cable housing. It seems as though I can't set it tight enough to draw the gas pedal but at the same time not be less that an inch and a half from the throttle stop.

It's like I set one end but I'm too far away from the other. When doing this setup, did you have to make any major adjustments on the carb screw settings themselves?

Nope, no adjustments other than kickdown and jetting.

Seriously though, I'd adjust the kickdown before screwing with anything else. Mine felt exactly the way you described. Can't you open the throttle by hand and look to see if you're getting full travel? For the cable all I did was hook up the cable so that it was fully extended when the throttle was fully closed. Have someone step on the pedal while you watch the linkage.

Thanks. I'll try these.

I can't wait to get back out there now that I have the SOA and Parts Mike High Steer setup.

If I could just get the carb tuned. Thanks again.

I had to weld up on the linkage between the throttle lever and the kick down bracket( not sure of the correct terms) I made the space about 1" shorter, so it pushes the kick down earlier than with the holley.
Make sure it is properly adjusted or you will burn up the tranny. The PO of my scout had hooked it up backwards, thanks. I looked at a 727 rebuild book and figure a way to make the stock linkage work, with a little modification.

My money is on your gas pedal, It is bending when you're giving it gas. I found the weak link in the scout:D

Just picked up 2 autolites 2100 today, #108 & #121. Now, to re-build one and hook everything up.
