Correct me if i'm wrong, the auto tranny in a range rover is the zf hp22 correct? If so, do they have the same problem as the ones used in the BMW and Volvo? Mainly they can't be reved in neutral or park after driving because they dont reduce fluid pressure and burn the clutches up?

That said, are the transmissions LR specific, or can you fit one from a volvo or bmw in its place if need be.

I have heard this...AND I fried one after revving the engine in neutral for some winching...BUT I don't know if that was the cause...

I ended up with my 3rd tranny being one from a Disco that allegedly does not have this problem...

Not sure if this is an urban myth...and if it isn't, I am not sure what years it affects...

That problem was fix by ZF before Land Rover started to use them.

OS:

Thats what I thought....urban myth for the rovers...

Still didn't keep me from frying two trannys...

Must be a problem with my right foot in deep snow :-)

Dave,

Did you notice any shifting differences between the RR vs D1 tranny?
