Planning on making a trip to the junkyard sometime.

What should I expect to pay for a front 60? Chevy or Dodge (yak!) since im passenger side drop.

Also; what characteristics should I look for? Read BillaVista's article but there is so much in there its mindboggling!! Any particular place I should go?

And also- What is the easiest/fastest way to ID a 60?

I know they're stupid questions but thats why its here!!! :flipoff2:

i just looked here and found one in california,$1800. http://www.car-part.com/

search on user name rickb, get one from him. he has an ad in the for sale section.

if you go looking for one the best way to id is the kingpins(you don't want the ball joint 60's unless their cheap)

you do know that dodges have a LOT of passenger drop 60's right, WITH drive flanges.

EDIT: read it wrong, when you wrote yak it made it seem like you said yak b/c you thought dodge was not passenger drop.

disregard my statement.

BUT why do you not like dodge 60's?

Mostly cause they're not Fords :flipoff2: Im a ford guy at heart. I'd like to make my yota Built Ford Tough as much as possible ;)

1800? I'm planning on paying less than half of that ;) Really though. If they wanted that much I'd buy a whole rig and part it out!

I'll check out rickb's ad, thanks

When you say junkyard, you don't mean a pick and pull type establishment do you?

D60 front ends are very few and far between at the PnPs.
Fullservice wrecking yards on the other hand have a good supply of D60s. Unfortunately, they know what they have, and what they are worth.
Expect to pay $1000+ from a fullservice wrecking yard for a D60 front end.

You can quite often buy a complete pickup for less than the cost of the single axle assembly.

Damn; thats what I was afraid of. I wanted to be able to talk to a stupid dronie and insist that it was worth nothing ;) I've got a family friend in the body repair industry and has a few choice junkyards that he gets discounts at; I guess thats my best guess.

Thanks

Do a road trip to the Bay Area PNPs, I was at the Hayward one a year ago and I saw one in a picked apart ford F250 and a bunch of 60 rear ends ;)

If you're only putting a 9" in the rear, just buy a 44 for the front. You could pick one of those up for around $200.

Only a 9".....

ONLY A 9"?!

I'd want something to at least come close to the strength of the 9"... and I dont think thats a 44...

NOT TO MENTION- Im doing 35 spline w/ spool... and you want me to put a 44 in there? I'd keep my toy axles before I did that!

If you go with a dodge make sure it is not 30 spline with cad

You can get front and rear for that price, check out the for sale section here for axles and see what you can find. If you are going to retube why not look into the RRD60 to get your pinion out of the way?

and in case you do get your eyes on one... my dodge has 44 front and 60 rear... its actually stamped on the chunk "D44" and "D60" they have same number of bolts (my only experience is with dodge and jeep 44s and 60s) and the chunk to an untrained eye actually can look the same in size. if you get th etape out youll see that there is a small difference (sorry o dont have the number si nfonr of me.)

i dont like the dodge d44 as it has autohubs. i guess it wouldnt be that big of an issue to change out later (when it become a fulltime project) but ford and chbby have the manual locks.

In order to ID a d44 from a d60, all you have to do is look for studs on the pumpkin. If it has studs, instead of U bolts... it's a D60

my dodge d44 has studs not ubolts.
