: Spring Mount ?

Could I just take the cutting wheel on my grinder and build two channels to hammer the mount into so it will be at the same height as the passenger side? I was just going to grind out the two channels down to the tube then weld it around the seam when I am done. Is this an okay way of doing it? I really do not want to have to grind alot on the pad and housing, which is what I would have do other wise.

personally I just removed material form the pad (same one actually) and welded it on with nickle rod.

Something about removing material form the housing bothered me.

I think grinding the two slots is an excellent idea. If you could get the perch to be locked onto the housing it will take a lot of stress of the weld.

And then weaken the casting at its thinest point. Yeah that sounds great. Just grind the perch down until its the same height as the other side and weld the perch on with high nickel rod.

What are the forces there on the casting? I would think the most would be compression and that should not be in issue as long as I get it to fit tight.

I think the slot idea is a good one

How much should I pre-heat it? I was planning on welding it back up with my miller 210 and it can get pretty good penatration.

Why not just grind the radius to match the housing, and then weld on a 1/2" to the other side perch to make up the difference? And you need to use nickle rod to weld it to cast.
