Okay, how can I legally swap a cab? I've got a pretty nice 82 f150 cab, and was thinking of putting it on the 85 250. The problem is, if I do that, the vin plate on the door would be different. If it wasn't for the 250 being diesel, I'd just title it as the 150, but with the 250 being diesel, I run into smog problems. How can I keep the 250 title, yet use the 150 cab, legally?

In California what you register a vehicle, it is supposed to go by the frame. To be legal all you have to do is swap the cab and reattach the original vin tag, and then get a "Statement of Fact" form at the DMV, fill it out stating what you did, and you are 100% legal. Vin swapping is illegal, so avoid using that phrase when you can.

It's not illegal to swap cabs for repairing the vehicle. leave the existing vin tags and carry the title for both vehicles. just don't pay on the one you are not driving. this way if anything does come about you can say here is the title. It's not stolen. Also if you are putting the deisel title on a gas truck it is not a good idea. The state has been running roadside safety and smogs. If you get held up in one you will get towed and possibly big trouble.

in floriduh they call it a combined title. no problem if you have the papers, just need to take thje completed to dmv for inspection. now if you swap the vin plates then you up for felony charges or sumptin like that. never understood how they find out cause I prefer the simple life..
