Which year chevy spindles are needed to install the ford hubs on the Dana 44.

you need spindles from a Chevy K15 or K5 built from 1973 to 1976. You may also use FSJ spindles from a disc brake axle (74) to EARLY 1977. the spindles changed mid year, and most are the later type, used to the end of production. The easiest way to tell is to yank the bearings and hold them back-to back. if the outer bearing is obviously smaller than the inner bearing, then you have the correct spindles. Be aware that the GM calipers may still not fit, so pony up the extra cash to pay for the brake pads with the bonded lining vs. the pads with the riveted lining, since they are a little thinner and fit up quite well.

Thanks for the answer.
Anyone have a set of these laying around

I suggest you buy new. I think Randy'sR&P sells them for $65/ea.
I went through three sets of spindles that were worn, blued, or had the bearing surfaces damaged. The third set has now chowed my bearings, finally. At $70 for a full set of bearings and seals, I've already paid for a new set of spindles at least twice over.

Just FYI... I found my spindles in an early 77 GM (actually it was a 5/77) 1/2 ton.

So I'd not overlook an early 77 1/2 ton, if you have a chance.

Thanks for the info. Called a couple of salvage yard around Sac and was quoted $55 each. Bout new ones for not a whole lot and not have to mess with things.

Thanks again

John try one of the pick n' pull type salvage yards instead of the ones that have the parts inventoried and on a shelf. I paid under $55 for everything (knuckles, spindles, hubs, and rotors for both sides) to convert my Waggie 44 to 5 on 5.5" and high steer at a pick n pull yard. This included a set of almost new Warn premium lockouts.

I pulled the spindles off a 78 K5 Blazer and used 79 Bronco Hub/Rotors on my setup. The spindles were the same as the Bronco's.

You mean almost the same right? They should have the same diameters, but the ford spindles attach to the knuckle with 5 studs instead of 6.

Zaclty...the diameters for the bearings were correct and the length of the spindle is the same. The bolt patterns were different.
