Anomaly? or???

I'm installing a Borla exhaust manifold/header on Moveasides TJ (gay ass mall crawler), and I broke the alignment tab off on the intake. A quick tig repair later and upon the extra super sized, I don't f'up other peoples sh*t and WTF happened here reinstall I notice that the Borla is sitting too high and hits the intake in a number of spots. Is this common and discussed ad nauseam on JU? Or just me?

I don't know how different the TJ is from the YJ, but when I put mine on I didn't have THOSE problems. It was a tight fit by the oil pan, I had to re-route my tranny cooler lines, cut my auto shifter bracket, and it was a major PITA to get to the bolts at the center of the header (torque wrench my a$$!) 6 months later the O2 sensor bung blew out. But hey - it's got a million mile warranty, right? :flipoff2:

Really, not as good as a f'ed up Atlas after the warranty runs out huh?

Much grinding on the intake later it fits like like a glove from OJ's golf bag.

I had some difficulty installing mine, it hit the intake webbing between #2 & #3 cylinders.... some heat and a heathy whack with a large socket and hammer it fit like a dream. I considered grinding out the webbing but thought it may weaken the aluminum intake too much, especially with all the vibration and pounding I put the rig through.

Ground all the way through on #5 it now has about a 1/2" visible hole on the top side of the webing between #4 & 5. The bottom has about 3/8"+ depth of material gone. A little less on most of the rest of the underside of the webbing. I left a good amount around the tubes so they would not expand/contract on each other, and cause problems.

I'm betting even WITH the grinding it's going to be OK for Mall crwaling  Plus if you heat up Stainless it turns into pewter and that would be bad ;)

If the weld job wasn't free and easy this would have really sucked.

And Brad It's for a 2.5L does that matter?

I know nothing about TJ's.
But to me it sounds like you are bored and are stirring the pot.:flipoff2:

i know its not a borla...but some info:

i have installed 2 of the Banks torque tube headers. both went on easily, fit perfectly, and sealed the first time. absolutely no problems. both went on in less than 3 hours

honestly, i couldn't tell a difference in performance. neither of the guys who own the TJ's keep track of fuel mileage either. but, they too have the anti-crack warranty...and if i had to replace a cracked header, it would cost more in labor than the difference in price between the cheapie-replacements and the Borla & Banks.
