Hell in a way, I am, I have 3 sets of the Longs out in service in customers rigs, these are not web savvy people, and I may at some point have to deal with them if they break a lifetime warrantied Long that I sold them, which now has no warranty.
I thought I understood Bobby's decisions to stop dealing direct and stop honoring the warranty, but after reading this, I am just pissed:mad:

yah i got to the second to last last page and then couldn't go any further...looks like camo deleted it...I for one am glad someone else is coming out with another birfield option....I was not going to spend $215 on a set of longs from Rock Buggy...now It looks like I have 2 options....buy from Bobby or buy from Camo when the ones he is testing are out...

go to the toyota truck section and it all works - seems there were a couple pages of tech ramblings that got deleted so the link here no longer works.

Any longs, newfields, or any other "gauranteed" parts I sell that WILL BREAK I am sure to distance myself from first. It sucks to be caught in the middle. Most customers are cool and understand the punishment our sport dishes out to drivetrain components. BUT, just to be sure...I let everyone know that these parts, although stronger than stock birfs, will break and to be expecting it.

You can still get to it. Just go into the Toy Truck section and you'll see it...

EDIT: Oops, some one already said that--hadn't refreshed the page for a bit...

I can't believe I got suckered into reading that whole thing. I would say if you can try not to which is why I'm NOT posting the direct link. Those guys in the Toy truck section have too much time on their hands. I wish someone would make a good solid CV style birfield out of Dana 60 u joints or something similar. I think the Longfield style birfs are nice but are still too much of a liability IMO. I guess there's just not enough room in the knuckle?

I think there's enough room in the knuckle. you could probably use a better design, metallurgy, and machining, and it could be strong as hell IMO. Stock birfs. are just cost efficient for the automotive manufacturer TOYOTA. they were not really supposed to be rockcrawlers in the first place.... ;)

I think the birf. style has more potential for strength vs. size compared to u-joints, but require quite some more engineering...

I saw that the other night. Don't read the whole thing. Just go threw and read Camos, Longs/RockDuster, and DRM. Most of the others are just people chiming in.
I though it was kind of funny:rolleyes: :flipoff2:

Just not enough room. W Harold built a few protos that used a U-Joint about the same size as the Dana 60 U-Joint and it fit inside the housing. Now the custom built inner axles broke off at the ear’s to the U-joints. (Even tried alloys and Crio, both broke at the ears) To remedy this you need to go to bigger ears too…. But there is just not enough room do to so and have the big u-joint. Keep in mind no matter what you make stronger you just move the week point, and their always is a week point. Unless a custom carrier was made the stock Cruiser 3 rd is only as strong as a 30 spline.

Looking at an inner axel, would you rather snap the end off the outside or the inside? The supper birfs concept, are a great alternative due to price and simplicity. (Requiers no majior mods and easy to instal) other than that for the $$ it would take to beef up a stock toy axel to almost Dana 60 strength , you can build a hybrid.

And lets not forget, the stock Toyota axles are outstanding and strong in stock form for the 29” tires they where meant for. It’s tools like us that go and try to run 35-39.5” tires with the axel locked up and 300-400 HP climbing a hill. (and the steering cranked hard over)

and yer point? :D

don't forget reverse and the tire bound up in a crevasse...

FWIW, I've been impressed with the Longs for the 8 months I've ran them. :gives:

Fing cryababies over there. Wish I could ONLY spend $215 to upgrade my RC44, as much as Longs do to a mini axle.

yeah, especially when you get DRM involved in ANY post.

condenced version:

1. some guy posted under the name "rockduster" and complained that longfield vendors suck.

2. someone dropped the hint camo was offering a cheaper version of a super-birf

3. camo acknowledged

4. a lot of bitching and whining

5. bobby posted

6. camo posted and noticed it was a coincidence that bobby and "rockduster" posted from the same IP and rockduster claims to be from tenn.

7. alot more bitching and whining to include people trashing bobby and camo............

8. DRM posts about every 3 seconds.............

9. Alot more bitching and whining to include allegations of computer hacking, espionage and slander. that's about it.

My crappy .02 on the whole thing: I wish longs still had a warranty. I wish they were still cheap, tho they're not real bad...I hope there turns out to be a competing product that's as good or better, with a warranty. This is gonna sound kinda hokey, but...here goes: I'm from the show me state. Show me a better product than longs, back it up, and I'll buy. I've got several other tornadoalley guys that are going to make the jump sometime this season, or offseason, and one that already did. Folks can talk about developing newer, better product with better warranty and service, but it's all talk right now. Let me know when folks have been running them, heck-competing with them-for a season or two, and are happy with them, and I'll be the first to say thanks for the great new product. It's real cool that there's enough percieved demand for there to be birf upgrades in the first place, and even better that guys want to develope better products for me:) Giddyup, get 'em coming!
