: FJ45 cab wanted...
cruiserbrett 11-29-2001, 12:30 PM I am thinking of building up an crawler FJ45 Pickup using a wagon frame. Before I start the project I was wondering if I'd be able to find a FJ45 cab(removable top style) does anyone have a cab/cab parts for sale? I am trying to keep the project alive but this hangup is not helping...I figured this would be the best shot for people to see it since the wanted section is not landcruiser specific... so, sorry if it angers ya'
60seriesguy 11-29-2001, 07:24 PM How about an aluminum reproduction? Aqualu makes them, and they're not too expensive. I'm pretty sure Gozzard makes the sides and top of the hardtop, too.
Good luck, sounds like a good plan!
orangefj45 11-29-2001, 07:32 PM you can always chop up a 40 cab! the 45 cab is gonna be tough to find. try danny warden in placerville. he has had a few. maybe rick d. on this board knows of one?!
good luck! i'm starting the buildup on my 45 rock rig in a couple of months.
;)
ranger 11-29-2001, 07:59 PM The one that Danny had got sold to Spector a few minutes before I tried to snag it! I'm sure you could get it from Spector, at the cost of a new vehicle.
I'm going to modify my 40 body this winter and make a hybrid 40/45. I looked into getting a 45 but prices are way up there even for a rust bucket..:skull:
cruiserbrett 11-29-2001, 08:32 PM Has anyone chopped up an FJ40 tub to make an extended(6inches or so) FJ45 cab? I think it can be done reasonably, just looking for ideas???
BTW-For those building the FJ45 crawlers what are your FJ45's going to be like? In terms of drivetrain/ suspension? I'm toying with diesel, but will likely go for a Vortec V-8, NV4500(6.34:1), NP203 red box and Split case(maybe 3.0:1)... Thinking Custom National Spring leafs with SO front/back...Also seeing the light on D60's front/rear.
Taylor 11-29-2001, 09:31 PM Building an short bed FJ45 250 hp 2f toyota motor sm465 203 case to toyota 3 sp case 488 front and back with ARB's SO 38 swampers power steering Warn birfield kit front and full floater rear. Warn 12000 front Toyota pto rear On board air and shower
Stock bed or flat bed or Stout bed still working on that one.
cruiserbrett 11-29-2001, 09:39 PM How are you getting 250 HP form the 2f? I might just keep mine if I can extract that kind of power, and have it fuel injected. What kind of power steering are you going to use? I am thinking FJ60 box since I have two...
PS your collection of FJ45's is awesome. 2 of each, right?
Taylor 11-29-2001, 10:11 PM The motor was custom built in Southern Ca at a race shop has about 8,000 in it and is fuel injected will run with most V8's not to many of these around. Running sag power steering. also Fj55 springs on the front Am trying to have it up and running next spring
cruiserbrett 11-30-2001, 08:41 AM Does Gozzard make the cabs in fiberglass? what is their site? I have not been able to find the website...thanks!
60seriesguy 11-30-2001, 10:32 AM I don't think Gozzard makes the whole cab, only the sides and cap of the hardtop, plus the front fenders, bib and bezel. AFAIK, Aqualu is the only source for an aftermarket FJ45 cab. If you think about it, with a few parts off a donor FJ40 you can make the whole cab yourself, then weld a sweet flatbed and you're golden. That's assuming you have the frame. Or you could lengthen an FJ40 frame, John Stumbaugh here in VA did just that and the end result was very sweet.
cruiserbrett 11-30-2001, 10:54 AM Now that you mention it an FJ40 tub would be a good starting point, then I could make a slightly extended cab 45, for a bit more room for bucket seats... interesting...
heavytlc 12-01-2001, 11:25 AM I built a 45 cab out of a 1970 40.Did it 4yrs ago.I thought it would be cool to start to take my bitchin trail truck to the warn event in 1999. Some people on the bbs remember what it looked like. They all think I am full o shiat when they ask about the old white 45 and I tell them that the single seat race truck (with nothing but the headlight trim of a landcruiser left)is the same truck.
It only took 15-20 hours total to build the cab,and it was fawking nice, not some pos.A plasma cutter makes a huge difference.
The same plasma cutter used by the same drunk idiot that built the truck, cut the truck into little scrap yard chunks. I think I made about $10 cutting it up.
Moral of the story build the cab its not that hard if you like I still have all of the daily pics I took while building it.
ranger 12-01-2001, 01:07 PM teamaloha4x4,
Could you email me the pic of the 40 cab modification....
ranger1963@juno.com....Thanks!:skull:
cruiserbrett 12-01-2001, 02:05 PM Can you send shots of the cab this way too? cruiserbrett@hotmail.com I am interested in doing the same, but dont have the plasma cutter...Oh well, lots of sawzall blades and cut off wheels.
Thanks!
nuclearlemon 12-04-2001, 03:33 PM i've got a rusted out cab sitting in the bed of my project 45 from a 63 fj45 shortbed removeable top.
cruiserbrett 12-04-2001, 04:08 PM How bad is the rust on the cab? I am looking to extend it a bit anyhow, so a little sheet metal work is not big deal. Could you send/post pics? I am not in a rush for the cab...
Thanks!
nuclearlemon 12-04-2001, 05:34 PM you can see a little bit of it here...i'll try to get detailed pics tomorrow or the next day.45 (http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=1287226&a=9540307&p=56609139&f=0)
Pygpen 12-04-2001, 09:43 PM A removable top in 63? I thought they started in (about) 65. Maybe at the same time the VIN# droped the MFG year as a prefix. Never seen a RT prior to 65.
PMK
