having problems getting a good timing chain cover for my 84 22r.....my question is, can you use a 22re cover...what wont match up?

If the cover came off a later block then no. look for the peanut shape on the side of the block in front of the drivers motor mount. the covers off the motors are the wrong ones. 84 and older off 20r or 22r, or 22re.

thats the heater return or something like that if im not mistaken....tap screwed up and gave me a 20r first and that was missing.....and i need a heater in the winter......gonna be the same problam with the 22re i take it?

What is the DOM of your truck? Check the VIN plate on the door jamb, it will tell you. If it's before 8/84, then you have the earlier 22R with the taller deck, you will need to get a cover from the same series engine. If it's after that date, then any 22R/22RE cover should fit.
