Alright flame me if you want...

I know some people have said don't do this or... it will break or you asking for trouble.. I have used the searched but I want more opinions....

I am building up a 4 banger YJ that has the 30 35c 4.10 combo in it right now....

I was planning on getting some used 33 Mt's to put on to wheel untill I finish regearing an building my other axles....

But there seems to be a shortage of used mt's at a reasonable price in my area....

I was planning on getting 36 TSL's or IROK's this fall when I put the new axles under yj but since I haven't found any used
33's for right now I'm thinking about just getting the 36's and wheeling it for a few months until I get the axles done...

Other information:
-this is a trail only rig
-the spider gears are welded front and rear so I wouldn't have the locker disengagement that is prone to breakin shafts
-I'm light on the skiny pedal
-I can get piles of extra d30 and 35c shafts
-I don't care about breaking a shaft once in a while.... but not ever time I go wheeling

I have a 9" and HP44 that I'm regearing and putting under my heep this fall.:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Put a set of TJ shafts in the D30, and they'll handle your drivetrain no problem.

I run the Hammers on a D30 with 4.88's, 4.0L, and 35's. I'm not a throttle jockey, carry spares, and ain't too proud to stack an extra rock or two when needed.

I voted to go for it since you only plan on doing it for a few months and have access to spares. Hope you like trail fixing your junk :flipoff2:

yeah I don't mind fixing on the trail I just don't want to have to do it everytime....

Plus I'm only going to wheel it once or twice a week for two month until I get the 9" hp44 in there...

so I only have a dozen or so chances to brake

I didn't see an option for "Spend part of my axle fund on typing and or spelling lessons":flipoff2: , so I say get 36s if it's trail only.

I agree with this statement.

I'd be alot less worried about the D30 than the D35, as said though put some 297x shafts in the 30 and it will take some abuse, the D35... Come to think of it I've never seen a D35 axleshaft break on 36" tires, lots of times on 33"s and smaller but never 36"s.:D

Carry a spare set of axleshafts for the front and line up spare axleshafts for the D35 like an ammunition belt!

put the d44 and 9" in NOW. And get 36's. Little tires are :rainbow:, and so are weak axles.:flipoff2:

It sounds like you already have your mind made up, but after your rear wheel falls off a couple of times (this doesn't usually happen in the best spots either...) it will get old. Where is KZOO??? Maybe we can help you find some tires locally.

i agree with this. forget 33s. you wont be happy. your gonnahave to setup your suspensio for the 36s anyway so go ahead and get that taken care of. i know a guy that had same combo but with 4.0 and 3.27 gears. he didnt break anything mud bogging. no serious wheeling. you got the extra shafts i say go for the 36s!
