well after months of brainstorming and plotting.....Doug and i were betting you could chop the rear off of a Rodeo and use an Amigo soft top grafted onto it.

well thanks to Dallas for sending out his old top....looks like doug has a little project to share w/ the class

stay tuned :flipoff2:

So that's why Dallas told me he would sell me his soft top for a good price..... and then, out of nowhere, quit responding to my e-mails about the transaction. Thanks buddy:rolleyes:

Nice work grafting it onto the Rodeo! Does this mean you can chop off a Rodeo hard top and graft it onto an Amigo? :D

i'm going to guess that you guys do know this top is just laying on the truck as a test fit...and that doug is planning to cut the sheet metal and remove the glass....to make the Rodeo a 1/2 soft top?

just checking :flipoff2:

Yes....I think that would do nicely.I will be paid off on my Rodeo in October so that's when all the irreversable stuff starts to take place,i.e. snorkle and something completely odd like grafting an Amigo top onto the Rodeo...lol.:skull:

:flipoff2: Yeah, I think it's easy enough to see. I'm just curious to see if he's going to try and keep the hard top also... Unless it's a little bit crumpled from that easy-over. My old Amigo had a habit of snowing in the back seat, and I'd imagine it'd make it just that much harder to heat up a Rodeo with a nice influx of some NY winter air. How is he making the template for the fittment? An Amigo, or just measurements?

I will keep you guys posted on progress and pics as the project moves forward.

just have to convince the wife that this is a good thing!?

Umm I honestly say i cant remember when that was, I have gotten a few offers on the top in the past that never happened and I cant remember who you are. I swear to you I didn't purposely blow you off, and for the record i GAVE doug the top, no money changed hands, so please dont think i just got a better offer. I do appologize tho, I'm sorry if your upset and hope you'll accept my appology and not hold a grudge.

as for the rodeo, thats gonna be pretty sweet, I didn't think the dimensions were actually that close. Cant wait to see it.

It was back in January when you were selling a bunch of stuff on The Wire. I wanted to buy the back window out of the top and you said you'd just sell me the whole thing for cheap ($100???) because you never used it anyway.

Don't worry about it. I am not a grudging kind of person..... I just always wondered what happened. At least now I know, and the top is being used for something worthwhile:flipoff2:

well, since the truck does not fit in the garage anymore and it is startin to get cold around these parts.

and that my dana 60 business is going very well.
(let me know if you need anything)

i thought that i would move this to be a late winter, very early spring project.

Plus, i am still having fun wheeling the truck after doing the sas (THANK YOU Matt)

also, the fact that my 3rd kid is due in a couple of months my time is at a very minimum.

but don't worry it will happen.
thanks

Knowing fully where I am, and what the consequences could be for asking...I'm gonna anyway! What, exactly, is the purpose of all this Rodideo-Carnage? As a Rodeo owner (2nd), I cringe a little seeing a sawzall taken to one of these trux I love so much-and bash so hard! I also owned an Amigo way back in 91 and loved it-So I understand the Amigo concept and all, but why trash a perfectly good Rodeo? Why not just buy yerself an Amigo? I guess I'm just a little slow on the uptake-or prolly just too old..:D Anyhow good luck with yer rock buggy, or whatever the fawk that thingz gonna be.

That is FAWKIN sweet!!!!!! I have to do this to my Rodeo!!! Will you be kind enough for some kind of write-up or at least a list of watch out for this kinda stuff??

Again...That is awesome!!!

I would reply to the above comment but with my arm being broke it takes to long to type...someone else get him...LOL:flipoff2:

Shall we do a "David Letterman-style" top ten list for this:

10. He already owns the rodeo

9. An Amigo may not have the size/power the owner has come to expect

8. Its freakin cool:cool:

7. Some people just like to fab.

6. Original/something you don't see everyday

5. Rodeo with a convertible option, what's not to love?

4. Did I mention its freakin cool?

3. Its his truck, he can do as he damn well pleases;)

2. Boredom?

And the #1 reason to chop off the back of a Rodeo and graft on an Amigo softtop

That's gonna be awesome.

What's the plan for the rear seats? Moving them back some; using them at all? (looks like they're gone)

Any chance of the remainder of the roof being turned into a sliding rag top?

thanks for the comments guys.

i had a blast cutting that shit off yesterday.

the rear seat has been gone for over a year now. my spare 36" is bolted to the floor where the seat was. and my hi-lift.

thanks
again

keep you posted as it goes.

i was thinking about just cutting the body in half behind the front seats and removing it totally.

and then tube the shit out of it.!!!

thanks

i admit i have been egging doug on about this.......................BUT, really.............who said that was a "perfectly good" rodeo? :D

Doug has had it since it was new.....................and when i met him it was a beutifully clean truck w/ 31's.

over the years, that thing has been pinballed between trees, sunk in water and mud, had the trans die, rolled at least twice..........all emissions removed, axle swapped, interior gutted.....................i mean really why stop now?

i think at a point you get more into actually 4 wheeling than you are into the brand of truck...............so all your decisions are a result of increasing your "fun" level.

it is a whole different ball game when you do not have to drive the truck on the steet :flipoff2:

Let me find a soft top and it's AWN!!!! I think that is the coolest.Of course after I find some Amigo fenders people won't know if I lengthened an Amigo or went crazy a just couldn't decide which Isuzu product I liked best!

If I find a top that is on the to-do list for sure!!!

Keep us posted on how the headliner and plastic in the back panned out.....nevermind:flipoff2:

Good point MOM!!!:flipoff2:

I got my cast put on today...they will cut it off in 2 weeks to pull all the staples and then put a new one on for the next 2 1/2 months.Hopefully....HOPEFULLY I can get some people together at the end of the month for a wrench fest and put it all together in one day.

BTW..last parts came today...THANX MATT!!!!

After all the parts we are cutting that top off....IT IS AWN!!!!:flipoff2:

You want photo's of the Rodeo or....????:flipoff2:

Don't get me wrong I can do both but I really figure this being an off road forum I should post the Rodeo....LMAO!

I will burn up a camera on it.It's sitting all squatted in the back from the busted spring and axle all kicked sideways...looks horrible..LOL.Once all the parts get put on it'll look great again.

I think I'm going to Herculine the lower portion plus put on some Amigo fenders and hack the back...man that'll be sweet!!!

Thanx for the great ideas!!!:D

Don't go off and buy any Herculiner from a store. I have a gallon I bought probably a year ago and never used. I doubt anywhere will match the price I'll give you on it;)

I'm still not selling you my spare Amigo fenders though:flipoff2:

Come AWN!!!!! I'll give you my Rodeo fenders for them both...LMAO!!!:flipoff2:

I'll find some somewhere around here to get them.So aren't you going to herculine the lower portion of the Amigo as well?? I know a gallon is way to much for what I need.

Well, I really wanted to about 2 years ago......... then I finally got around to buying the Herculiner a year ago but never put it on...... and now I'm not sure if I want to or not. I actually intended to put it on ebay, but then considered putting it on my boulder bars and the bumper I'll be making this summer. I could easily get by with a quart for those projects though. So as of now its just sitting in a closet next to all of my old audio stuff....... which I have also considered selling several times over the years, but still have it "just in case I decide to put it back in". I'm a habitual packrat:D

Ok, me and my friends who own Rodeos and Amigos have discussed this and figured out the best way to do this and it almost got completed too. We got a 90 Amigo and cut the rear half off the truck. now try to follow, the cut was right infront of the mounting area for the soft top from the roof to almost the taillight housing. We left alittle more metal for that area, just behind the 1/4 panels flare ends. If you graft the Amigo soft top mounting metal right behind the rear doors of the Rodeo, the top will fit on the Rodeo body, but the soft top flaps overhang on the rear doors, not good. So now you should cut the taillight housings off the Rodeo and graft on the Amigo roof section back about 1.5" to allow room for the doors to swing without rubbing the soft top.The amigo "back end" which is still attached to the to the soft top mounting area now becomes the back of the truck, now you will also have a side swing gate as well. I had most of this completed but had to get rid of the project due to a "newbie" coming into our family, a good desicion, i have a son now :) . I plan on getting another Amigo one day, to do this conversion again. I already have the 96 4x4 Rodeo........Damn it would have been sweet, but not as sweet as my Honda Accord pickup.... oh well, too many toys not enough time. There is always next year
