: Starting the post over - POWERTRAX NO SLIP
I just got a Powertrax NO-SLIP for a D44 trac lock,, so I follow the instructions and when they say to locate the fawkin pinion shaft and remove the retaining bolt/roll pin and shaft,, I DONT HAVE NO RETAINING BOLT OR ROLL PIN!!!!!
What I have is C-clips on the inside of the spider gears that hold the shaft in.
The instructions say nothing of this and a friend and I have searched the whole Fawkin web looking for an install like mine.
The no-slip shaft has a hole at the end and no place for the c-clips. c-clips will not work in the noslip anyway (no room).
Has anyone done an install like this? 'Powertrax No-Slip into D-44 trac lock carrier'
heres the pic again

KarmirToy 07-18-2003, 03:21 AM why in the world would you post the same exact post all over again. jeez your previous post is only a few posts down.
IMHO this is the best way to waist bandwith:flipoff2:
ItsATJ 07-18-2003, 05:14 AM Let's see if this answers you question...
No Slip Install (http://www.itsatj.com/NoSlip.htm)
It appears to me that there are no C-Clips where your arrows are pointing. (north and south). The C-Clips are on the axle shafts (east and west). There is a bolt holding the pinion shaft (north and south bar).

I started a new post to get rid of some confusion with what my problem really is -
IMO your dumb a$$ reply is a waist of bandwidth
and no i dont need links for an install that is not like mine at all---and YES!!!!!!! THERE ARE C-CLIPS WHERE THE DAMMMMM ARROWS ARE.
Im getting pissed - Fawk it - I thought that Pirate was the best place to go for help,,,, A few really try but most have their "OPPINION"
Thanks to those who give a crap - and Fawk those who dont!
Square Peg 07-18-2003, 07:34 AM How about losing the POS Trash Loc all together and starting over with a real locker?

Sorry, dude. There are people who ask stupid question and have no idea what they are talking about. When I helped a friend remove his 44 with a trac loc and install a No-Slip in the trac loc carrier, there was a bolt holding in the Pinion Shaft. There were no c-clips on the pinion shaft, just on the axle shafts. This was in a 2001 TJ. So, I guess you are on your own on this one. Oh, and by the way, :flipoff2:
oldjeep 07-18-2003, 08:22 AM [i]So lets see if I understand this, you have no idea how your carrier goes together. Did you even look at the website that ItsATJ posted? The retaining bolt/roll pin keeps that cross shaft in, witch in turn keeps your axles wedged against the spider gears that hold the C-clips in their pockets. It took me like 30 min to install my no-slip, course I knew what a retaining bolt was. [/B]
Wow, another newbie jackass who didn't look at the picture
91XJ - I'd call the manufacturer, and see what they have to say about it. Also see if you can get a part number off your LSD.

Aww shit....
Now that i look like a dumb ass i will ask dumb ass question. If there are c-clips on the cross shaft why don't you take a screwdriver and knock them out?

Here's the dumb answer - because the no-slip won't work with the c-clips on the cross-shaft and there's no place to put a roll pin or retaining bolt in his LSD. So why bother taking it apart?

well in his post in the general 4x4 discussion area he said that he got the powertrax unit 9204443020, with is for the lsd, and that is what he has correct? Dunno much about LSD no-slip but i assumed there woud be a way to keep the cross shaft in.

An excellent question. I looked at an exploded diagram of a trac-loc, and they do all have those c-clips.
One more vote for calling up Powertrax and asking them :D
Im such a NOOB!!! arnt them there c-clips in there? http://www.deltaforcers.com/sigs/c-clip.jpg
Maybe ill just get a sledge hammer - then hunt all you bastids down and BASH SOME SH!T!!
AND IM THE NOOOOOB????http://www.deltaforcers.com/iB_html/emoticons/brdflick.gif
(not talkin to you oldjeep - -turns out im fawked on this one - earlier d44s came with the snap rings (c-clips)
as for all the idiots that had their opinion - IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THE FAWK YOUR TALING ABOUT,, DONT POST!!!!
Read it and move on,, if someone reads it and has had the same experience,,, then I would be greatfull for the assistance.
I would imagine it would be the same for any locker(no cross shaft retaining bolt),,,hmmm but no-one has ever came across this...WOW
FAWK FAWK FAWK!!!!!!!! - -:flipoff2:
ItsATJ 07-18-2003, 12:17 PM Wow, those definitely look like c-clips. I would be very interested in knowing what that axle came off of. Well, since I have no knowledge about this application, I won't post a reply. :D
oldjeep 07-18-2003, 12:24 PM Is it possible for you to use a new "normal" cross shaft and simply drill a hole for a rollpin?

I called Powertrax and they said that they dont know and that the guy that knows whats up will be back on monday..
I am sorry for all the cussing,, frustration gets to me.. Time to kill some kittens!
I have thought about drilling it - but I would probably get it crooked.
One option I have is to find a d44 case with a retaining pin and swap my ring gear on it - anyone got a d44 carrier that had or has a 3.55 ring gear on it?
oh yeah - what does that rainbow thingy mean?

Rainbow = Gay
If you get another carrier you will have to set up the gears. might as well get a detroit if you are going to do that.

The dude at powertrax (richmond gear) said I can do that without setting up gears - wtf do i believe?
bob91yj 07-18-2003, 10:57 PM Dude at Richmond Gear is wrong.
ddestruel 07-18-2003, 11:25 PM You can listen to the guy at richmond gear and not reset your R&P but all youll end up with is a musical differential that will grind itself into shavings in a very short period of time. Every carrier is machined slightly different maybe a .001 off but that is all it takes to off set the gears messing properly.
How hard are you going to wheel this thing? for the pain time and agony that you are dealing with this 1/2 ass locker i would have just spent the money on a shim kit and gotten a detroit or a power lok amd brought the whole shabang down to somebody who knows setting up diffs and had them install a new one. find the right person with the right bearing puller tool and the install will cost you a case of beer and maybe and burger.
Just my .02 but definately do not do what the guy from richmond said you could do youll regret it sooner than later.
Good Luck
ok ok damn your right - I am too damm broke to afford ANY locker.. The only reason I got this No-Slip is because I got it brand new in box for $250.00 shipped,,,, cant beat $180.00 off.
Supposed to be able to do it in an hour without setting gears......blah blah blah yadda yadda
hell, when I was purchasing it, I was wondering where the hell I was going to get the money..
with my d44 I am limited to the very expensive lockers, (ARB, detroit and whatever comes with new carrier) Turns out the upgrade to the d44 wasnt much of an upgrade, more of a headache now.
soooooooo,,, I have a friend that used to set up gears in electra-hauls (BIG A$$ DUMPTRUCKS WITH 4' RING GEARS) and the tolerances had to be around .010, so I think we could set up the rearend...
still looking for a d44 LSD carrier and retaining bolt...:p
btw - in this town there is no mechanic that i would trust,, no 4X4 clubs, no tractor store,,no machine shop,,and probably no "correct bearing puller" lol Im in the sticks with internet thats all.

91XJ,
Maybe they accidently screwed up your box contents? See if you cant find a # on it and call powertrax to cross reference it. If you ordered the right shizat you should have the right shizat. But I also vote fer ya to call and see wtf's up. Oh and :flipoff2:

The dude at Richmond gear is partly correct. You don't have to do a full gear setup, you just have to get your backlash right. I did the exact same thing with my D44. Swapped in a Detroit, set the backlash, and was rolling in 2 hours. That was over 4 years ago and the gears are fine.

did that, and the guy was askig me if there was anyplace on the carrier to put a retaining bolt - which there isnt..He said he will give me an answer on monday.
If I cant find a LSD D44 carrier,, maybe they will send me an open no-slip and I could get open carrier (easier to find)

Werd! Did it myself which proves any retard can do it. My backlash changed from .009 to .010 using the same shims off the old carrier. Decided not to muck with it and try to get it closer.

That's what I thought, a D44A, Not the axle of choice (no available lockers or anything aftermarket).

I have a carrier for that size ring gear.

If the damn thing fits inside the case just install it and tack weld the crosshaft in the bitch! I mean geeze how often will you pull that apart on a non-Clip (normally) axle.
Oh and BTW freaking out over other newbies comments confirms the level of newbie is high. :flipoff2:
Not being able to figure out you can tack weld the shaft in.... I dunno.
Chief78CJ7 07-22-2003, 12:09 PM If you don't have the money to spend on a real locker.. why not go with a spool-- or semi-spool.. or Lincoln Locker?

F$%@ yeah! Spent $50 less than than what 91XJ spent on the locker that don't work and installed a spool. Nothing to break, other than shafts, and makes really cool tire noises when I drive through parking lots.
I would sell that locker you got, pickup a spool and teach yourself how to setup gears. No time like the present to learn a new skill and save yourself some $$ in the process!!!!!! :D

That is one of the first things I thought,, The dude at powertrax told me "DO NOT WELD THE CROSS SHAFT!"
some sh!t about it being zytanium - yeah I admit I am not as hardcore as all you,, But I have had a Jeep since I was 12,,and been wheelin some pretty nasty shit with open diffs,,so :flipoff2:
I know how the hell to drive - just dont know the fabrication crap like you dickheads.
Another point - there is 1, I say 1, cherokee in the so called junk yard we have - and i have got most the crap off that that i would need..I dont have easy access to parts or a machine shop..I'm in the sticks.
I do appreciate the advise that comes along with the flames though.
hey 91XJ-----I might have a dana44 open case laying around on my stash pile but no promises....take your case out, remove the bearings and give me a measurement from the table surface to the ring gear mounting surface. If I have a match, I could send it your way for 50 plus shipping. You forgot to put your location in your info.

I allready bought a carrier on E-bay,, and am going to get a master install kit,, that way if I ever blow the no slip, I can easily throw the LSD carrier in and I'm on my way:D
Thank you for the offer, - I may take you up on it if this carrier I bought doesnt work for some reason.
