: Axle dilemma ... input??

Here's my dilemma. Just got my front D60 that I plan on cutting down and rebuilding over the next couple of months. I plan on staying eight-lug.

However, I'm kinda partial to the 8.8 axle in the rear, particularly since the tubes are welded and I've got a custom traction bar attached. I don't want to replace this axle until I break it.

But after getting off the phone with Moser, it seems I can't get eight-lug shafts built for the 8.8. And no one (that I can find) makes adapters from 5 lug to 8 lug.

The guy at Moser was very nice and suggested I could have adapters made at a machine shop to facilitate the switch.

Anyone have input or ideas other than that? Thanks.

I know a place that'll make your adapters for you. I have adapters on my 8.8 that changed it from 5 on 4.5" to 6 on 5.5" and they were only about 1.65" thick each. Work awesome!! There made from billet aircraft somethin or other aluminum. I asked the guy if they would break under serious abuse offroad and he said no way! They garuntee i'll bust shafts before I even touch the adapters... PM me and I'll give you the contact info.

actually on second thought nope nobody makes your adapters. You should sell that weak Dana 60 thing and get a D30 up there in the front. I just happen to know a guy that'll take the 60 off your hands... :D

why would you want an 8.8 rear and a 60 front ?

GET a rear 60 @ a boneyard for 100$ dont waste your $ on the c clipped 8.8

I'm not going to get into a strength battle here. Eventually, the 8.8 will break. However, I've done most of the hardcore rockcrawling trails here with this axle and it's working fine. I thought I was clear about that in the beginning.

Rockbuggy, thanks for the input. I assume I'll be able to find a local machine shop to do the same thing if I can't find another option.

What about converting both front and back to 6 lug? Just a thought...
