i have an 89 chevy k1500. i took it to get an alignment today and they told me that they need to replace the inner and out tie rod ends, pitman arm, and idler arm for the low price of like 750 bucks. so now i know i am gonna do the work myself, but i was thinking i'd ask ya'll if you knew of any complete steering kits for ifs chevys that are heavier duty or have more offroad durability than stock.

Just get some nice MOOG HD stuff and you should be fine. Those are all high wear items, especially if you have bigger tires... One more reason I'm glad I got rid of all that junk...

ummmmhmmmmmmmm high cost fast wear parts like the rest of em.
Id look into the 3bolt idler arms and get all moog parts like jason said and loosen those t-bar bolts. cranked front ends eat all parts thrown at them

not sure what your talkn about.
if you go in tire shop for new ties or anything they will more than likly tell you that you need idler arm or pitman arm, and you could have installed you parts the day before.
that what your meaning.
I had that happen one time , knew I was getn new tires so tossed a new pitman and idler on my truck. the tire guy told me they were bad. i was likie dude those are brand new yesterday cause I wanted new stuff when I had new tires hes like ohhh and shut up.

yeah i thought it was weird that it would need to be replaced too. I had just taken it in for new brakes, and after i brought it home it started making a weird wheel noise so i took it back. it took me 7 trips back to that shop before they fixed it (all that work done for free) and then i told em to give it an alignment and thats when they said all this stuff needed to be replaced. i suppose they are probably just tryin to get even with me haha. thanks for the heads up.

did you check them yourself??
have freind get in cab and work the wheel left to right while your under it wathcing to see how much play is between the idler and tierod center link. same with the pitman.. youl more than likly notice some play between the center link and idler and pitman, but its not margy hofully. if you have like and inch of play then you outhg to think about replceing them. not them wichever has play.
dont do this with the truck on jcakstands. if its on jcakstands youl think your idler is way shot but its not.

What I meant is there are no moving parts & nothing to wear out on a pitman arm.

On an IFS Chevy there ARE, the pitman arm has the TRE in it, making it a replaceable, wear item, same as the idler arm.

yeah its got that little joint where it mounts to centerlink. not solid chunk of steel like the 87 and older trucks
