Im trying to remove the drive flange so that i can pull of the rotor. Well i got the cap off, flange and hex looking nut...but behind that is a weird nut. I thought it might have that 4 point caseltated nut and i have that socket, but it definately does not look like that. I just need a step by step to remove the stuff so that i can put new rotors on...or should it just slide right off since i took the cap off of the flange? Should i beat on the rotors with a hammer???

someone help me!

i did search not much stuff on removing though.

oh and if there are special tools for this socket, please let me know. thanks

So..... what does it look like then? About what year is this axle?

it's a 1979 dodge, it kinda looks like that 4 point nut but with only more "points" in it...if that make sense. Ill take another look at it today. But if yall could help that would be great.

I'm aware of the 4-point and a 6-point castle nut, usually found on internal-splined hubs. Some of these had a ring-and-pin type locking system for the inner nut. My '90 front (with external hubs) has 2-9/16" hex nuts, with square corners, and the conventional folded-tab lock ring. There was also a 2-9/16" hex nut with rounded corners, some of which had a nylon locking collar and thin stamped wedge to lock it to the slot in the spindle.

Lloyd, do you think the internals would be any different on a flange? After i took off the hex nuts that bolted the cover down, that had the splines for the shaft to slide in. There was a big hex nut, but it just twisted off by hand...definately no torque to get it off. And then im just lost on where to go. I have removed plenty dana 44 hubs, but i have never dealt with a 60 until now and external flange at that.

Yall can take a look at the exploded diagram in billavistas dana 60 article, maybe yall could help me from there...with what type of tool to use. I pm'ed billavista, but haven't gotten a response yet...im sure he's a pretty busy guy though.

EDIT: Im pretty sure i found it, after saving the picture of the exploded diagram of the external flange and zooming in. I can see that im pretty sure it IS the 6 Point casseltated nut. And the reason why i got lost was the lock washer in front of it made it look very wierd AND the fact that i haven't dealt with these flanges before.

Where can i buy a 6 point socket...any part store?

thanks
