Is it normal for the brake light on the dash to come on when the brakes are applied? It is on when the hand brake is pulled and also when the foot brake is pushed. It has done this as long as I have owned it, brakes fine and all pieces have been check, replaced and filled at one time or another. Thanks

not normal, should only light when parking brake is on. latter fj40's(78 fj55 doesn't but at least 82+fj40 do and all 60/2/80's) have a sensor in the master cap that lets you know when the fluid is low....this turns on the dash light on when the fluid level is low or when the sensor is toast, but it's on all the time(pretty much) If your 40 has the sensor(look for a wire ;) then try unpluging it and make sure the fluid isn't low 1st

if cap sensor is bad.....get a new one or leave it unpluged.

thats the only conection the main brakes have with the parking brake and light.....that I can think of......which doesn;t mean there arn't others ;)

Hi, My 71 does this when the brakes are out of adjustment or there is a leak in front or rear system.
