I'm starting to convert my Scout to SOA with a GM dana 44 housing from a K5 Blazer. When disassembling it I couldn't figure out how to get the rotors and hubs off. I removed the calipers, outer hub part and the snap ring behind of it. I tryed using a hammer to get the rotor off but I don't think that is the right way because it didn't move at all. I have another question about the gears. I have a rear axle I could use with 4.09 gears but the GM axle has 3.07 gear is it possible to put a set of 4.09 gears in this housing or do I need a larger housing.
Any help would be appreciated

Sorry, no 4.09s for the D44. You have to settle for 4.11s which is basically the same thing. They will fit no problem.
As for the rotor/hub removal
first remove tire(makes it easier)
remove caliper
remove locking hub assembly, something like 8 allen screw 2x snap rings
then outer spindle nut
then spindle lock washer
then inner spindle nut.
Should slide right off after that.

to add to charlo's post: the two spindle nuts are basically thick circles w/ 4 notches on 'em. you gotta have a special socket for 'em. (at least on mine you do)

You will need a different carrier for that gear change

Yea it's just the carrier that you need to switch. The housing is fine. What size tires do you have? What trans/tcase? you might want to regear both axles to something lower.

You can run the carrier you have but will need a special "thick" gear.
