I know its sad but for a while my sig said I had 30x9.50 BFG's and portal Dana 35's ,and people belived me. I got more E-mails about guys wanting to know how to get a set!! Its sad when some people on this board dont know the truth so I thought this post might help some of the new guys out. There is no Portal 35'c axle and hopefully there will never be one. Sorry for the confusion and for all you guys who have sent me checks for the portal 35'c axles, your money will be sent back I swear. Just joking. But I think I got around 20 E-mails about theese axles. There is money to be made I guess selling portal 35c's, so maybe Ill start for real. On that note I think Ill change my sig to my real rigs specs so people will take me seriously.Sorry for the confusion, and for all of you guys who hoped you could still run 5 on 41/2 wheels Im sorry I guess you got to switch wheels and axles. :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Hey its funny you joke about it. I actually happen to run into a engineer at some college (online) that was working on a portal Dana 35 for his final project. I swear it :D. I e-mailed him to find out how it was going. Mainly curious to see how the hell he was doing this. I'll truy and find it again.

Yeah but for some reason folks insist on puttin 30 outers and hubs on em so they can keep their stock wheel bolt pattern

Yeah, there you go. Not "custom", just a mix of stock parts.

44 rear, 44 front with 30 outers and no hubs, and 297 joints from a 95+ YJ half shafts.

...and 5 on 4 1/2 wheels :D

Yeah, ya gotta love it when someone pust $750 in bolt on parts(ie: the Warn locking hub kits), so that they can save $140 on wheels with a weaker lug pattern.

The 1974? through 1980 Dodge trucks and Ramchargers used 5 0n 4.5" bolt pattern on a front 44 that was full time, no hubs.

A 35 with portals could work. when the reduction is done at the end of the axle the stress on the R&P and axles is reduced a great deal. Example: I have been going to and working on modified Pull Trucks for 20 years and in the modified 4x4 class (800-1100 HP) the common axles to use are 2.5 ton Rockwells and Timkens but one guy went to ford 9"s with the reduction gears on the end if the axles and has had no failures. He gained a nice advantage by removing the heavy axles and moving that weight out in front.

While the gear reduction of a portal axle would held axle and gear life in a D35C, the extra width and weight would put undue leverage on the housing. D35C housings are marginal from the factory, and bend easily with light wheeling.

But whatever:rolleyes:
Pete can use a portal D35C to back up his 5 on 4.5" D44 front end.:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Also a suspension lift doesn't do jack sh*t for axle ground clearance... unless you call bigger tires a suspension lift :D

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... I've thought about making my own portals using NP241 planetaries at each wheel. Well, they won't really be portals, but it'll have gear reduction at the wheel. :D
