Working on a friends tranny. Here is the shifter assembly as it was
when we removed it. I think it is missing a spring and possibly a felt
or seal in this assembly. Anybody know for sure?
If so, anyone have one for sale or know where I can buy one?
I also needed to replace the end piece and found it back east, but
most all these parts seem to be obsolete at Ford.
Thanks,
Jay

I'm not sure if it's the same transmission, but I have access to a mid 80's f-250 4 speed with a shifter assembly like that. Want it?

I dont remmeber mine having that big cylinder before the end there. Mine did have a spring below the retaining cup.
Yes, a spring goes between the two 'halfs' of the 'ball'.
As for the large cylinder on the end of the shifter, that was used to dampen vibration. there should be a rubber piece inside to take up the slack between the two. Started in the early '80's.
No felt seal, the 'ball' rides directly on the aluminum housing.

Thanks for the replies guys. Dave.....looks like the only other thing I need is the spring.
Alpo.....spring goes as shown in this pic?
Anyone have a spring they can measure...maybe I can find a replacement.

Yes. Unscrew the shift knob and slid off the two pieces you have to replace the spring. I'd just grab one off a junk yard tranny. Any NP-435 should do.
