I've recently found the need to change my ring and pinion just like I'm sure most of us have. I've called a few places and found that I would need to sell a kidney or become a sperm donor to pay someone to do it.

I have a GM 8.5" 10bolt that could be changed, but I'm going to VERY seriously consider using a ford 9". I'm partial to the 9" due to my hotrodding past.
I would like to ask one of the oldtimers, or someone who can help to offer their experience on doing this change to share this knowledge so we can spend hard earned cash on something more important. Maybe even hold a small class in their garage.

I live in San Jose, CA would have no problem buying all my own tools needed, traveling to your location, and even paying "tuition", if something resonable can be agreed on. I mean also that I'll do the work with you watching, not you doing all the work while I go uh....uh huh....

I've done a SFA swap on my s-10 and work on multi million $$ precission (sp?) equipment, so I have plenty of mechanical aptitude, just no experience.

My cell # is 408-685-6726

Good route here. I was just taught a couple of weeks ago how to set up my front and install an ARB. I would pass spending money on the GM axle and go with the 9". THey are so easy to set the back last on via the spanner and setting up the pinion isn;t that hard. Plus you have lots of options on lockers and axles (31,35,40 spline).

look for a 9" from an EB.

So your offering to teach some newbie's how to set it up?? Naw kidd'n, actually I found a guy at work that I might be able to coerce into helping me.

I've found a 9" with factory discs in a junkyard for a steal, $150. OUt of an old lincoln. Just have some Q's about the whole thing.
