You can find more information about this swap on the The ranger station, and RRORC.com

Personally, I have swapped in a a 1994 4.0L V6 in to a ranger that originally had the 2.9L V6. All you need is the engine motor mounts, exhaust, computer, and wiring harness that goes fromt the engine to the computer. A little more complicated than that, but it is managable!

Good Luck!!

i took out a 2.3 4cyl of my 92 ranger and put in a 4.0

you really need the same year motor as you truck, that'll be easiest. You'll really want to find one with a complete wiring harness and computer.

regardless of what tranny you have now, the 2.3 tranny has a completely diff bellhousing pattern than the v-6's.

so you need a trans. and related parts

you need the 4.0 motor mounts

4.0 starter

4.0 throttle cable

4.0 radiator and hoses

if you have air conditioning and want it hooked, you'll need new lines for it.

you may need to do some minor wiring changes for the instrument cluster, but with all the right parts, everything should bolt up.

mmm nothin better than the good old A4LD tranny! Well, I think some have done, or at least researched the C5/C4 tranny swap... I'm just waiting to pay of the truck, and someone else to pioneer the swap! :)
