I just received a quote on my way home for 4" (1" over "stock") 9/16-18 studs to mount the steering arms to the top of D44 knuckles.

I've gotten a quote of $18 (and change) each for a quantity of 50 (less if I buy more). Now I'm trying to gauge the demand to see if its worth my time to order and distribute them (in a limited capacity).

Who wants them, who needs them, and who is willing to pay $15-$18 each for them???

They'd be 4" long, 1" rolled thread on each end. 4140 (or 4130 can't remember off the top of my head), heat-treated (basicaly grade-8 or better).

I can get them 5-7 days (so they say) from order.

If the demand is great enough, I could also set up a fab shop or something with the info so they can distribute them instead of me.

let me know if people are intrested.

I'm curious - is there a good reason not to use bolts instead of studs for holding these steering arms on?

I'm guessing there is, since GM went to the trouble of using the studs, but danged if I can think of why... There's lots of guys out there using bolts - seen in plenty of times in photos, at any rate.

Might save you some $$ (or a lot -- $18ea?!)
