I can't believe I just did that! I deleted a resource heirarchy BEFORE deleting the child depandancy!

Cluster go BOOOM!!

Thank god it's just a demo system, but damn.. I still gotta have it running in the morning, WITH powerpoint chart.. that aint done yet. :beatingheadagainstwall:

(Anyone that's played with Steeleye's Lifekeeper software knows what I'm talking about)

Someone is in for a long night.

By the way, I don't have to work tomorrow, and am drinking beer. :flipoff2:

WTF? Some database software or something?

In 50 words or less.

It's software that clusters 2 or more servers together for failover purposes. If for some reason one server goes down, the other pics up right where it left off.

I'm using it to provide failover for LVM, NFS, Data Replication, and IP Failover.

A parent is say a machine, a child is say a service under that machine your protecting. So if any 1 child or more of that parent fails, the entire server does and fails over. if any1 child of that parent is say.. deleted... well... you get that idea.

Guess you can't just duplicate the working server(s), huh?

I was starting to think you corporate guys have it easy not having to deal with little old clueless ladies...guess not ;)

whats to duplicate?

When I deleted the child, it automatically deleted everything, including the parent. all I could do was watch. (an important little btw that I don't think was mentioned in the manual)

Been playing with this software for 12 hours now... that's my first hard lesson. LOL

(If there was an easier way, I'm listening)

Hopefully nuther 15 minutes I'll have the heirarchy set back up again and replicating... so I can go home.

yeah yeah.... I'm going back and doing that..

but after talking to tech support once.. and discovering 1-2 little quircks in the product and manuals, I wouldn't be suprised if there are a couple other ones. ;)

Never saw LifeKeeper before........but I'll have to look into it further.

I've got 3 HP MC/ServiceGuard clusters here, and inherited (read: got STUCK with) an SGI Irix FailSafe cluster at a previous job.
