for some reason i have had the desire to turbo my sammi, it would just add to the what are they thinking doing that to a sammi appeal. i did a bunch of research on the swift sites, but have yet to talk to someone that has sucessfully turboed a 1.3 or a 1.6 16v in a samurai, seen them on the 1.3 16v swifts, but thats it. anyone with any info or a parts list or pictures would be great. zack.

I would not suggest the stock Samurai engine as a good turbo canidate. But I would suggest the Swift bottom end. The swift is built with much better forged parts, and is ready for the extra loads.

Since you are going with the swift bottom enf, I would try to steer you in the direction of the swift head and fuel injection also. The little 16 valve head is going to work better with the turbo.

With this said, you are basically facing a total engine swap project that is of a rather complex nature, and the turbo bits are not available in the US, so you are looking at more custom fabrication and added expenses. Once you get it running you will probably be pulling out your hair trying to get it to run correctly.

I'd suggest if you want a turbo in your Samurai, find a stock turbo motor from another vehicle to drop in. There are a number of options from Ford, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Nissan, Chrsyler, etc. Going this route, you will have a more affordable and dependable engine. Not to mention, probably a lot more power!

I run a Mitsubishi 2.0 turbo engine in mine. I am VERY happy with this setup.

Hope this helps.

Ah, don't believe the hype. As long as you're goals are realistic, I think the stock Sami motor will do just fine under a (once again) realistic amount of boost. Of course the Swift bottom end would be optimal.. but not everyone can get ahold of one easily.. and not everyone is looking for a 200hp 1.3L. I think people have a serious misconception of HP with all of todays outlandish advertising. That being said.. if you could get 80'ish rear wheel horsepower ouf of a Zuk.. I bet it would FLY.

I have an old friend.. that has this dad.. that has a water jet.. that happens to cut out all kindsa neet stuff.. including a header and turbo flange for me. I'm building a blow-through system with a Weber IDF and a Mitsubishi TE04H turbo. Don't worry.. I'll keep everyone posted.

Sounds like a fun project.. Do keep us posted.

I had a VW 1.8 gas motor in my Samurai before I did the current build up. While the flat torque curve of that engine was great, and cut down on my shifting a lot, it was still lacking in street performance. That was about 100 hp at the crank.

But lets face it, any little bit is worth having!
