In an earlier e-mail action request, The California Cattlemen’s
Association
(CCA) asked all members to contact either their elected representatives,
or the
U.S. Department of Agriculture, regarding United States Forest Service
Chief
Dale Bosworth’s decision to virtually ignore the 234 appeals filed
against the
Sierra Nevada Framework. As it stands, the Sierra Nevada Framework
threatens to put hundreds of ranching families out of business, and
endanger
many of California’s rural communities.
To compound the dire situation our industry now faces the
California
Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) and the grazing industry is left no other
administrative appeal option under the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
However,
Undersecretary of Agriculture for Natural Resources and the Environment
Mark
Rey can, until December 4th, decide to place this decision under
discretionary
review. Mr. Rey is our only hope for feasible, site-specific, grazing
management.
Now, the California Forestry Association (CFA) has set up a
web-based
point-and-click letter writing system to impart the urgent need for Mark
Rey’s
discretionary review of this decision. Therefore, CCA urges all members
to
please visit http://capwiz.com/cfa/home and send e-mail letters to
President
Bush, USDA Secretary Ann Veneman, Mark Rey, and Dale Bosworth. We need
to inundate these individuals’ offices with this correspondence before
Tuesday, December 4th!
Early indications from Washington D.C. have been fairly
positive. However,
the Sierra Nevada Framework is undoubtedly the most important planning
document to ever determine the use of California’s National Forest
System
Lands, and one that poses a significant threat to California
agriculture. Please
take the time to visit this website and send a quick e-mail. No writing
is
necessary, and the process takes less than three minutes. This is our
last
chance, and time is running short for California’s ranchers. Thank you.
