: Tow rig brake proportioning?

I may be pulling some heavy loads with my K5 soon(close to 8k). Only problem I see is the 1/4t frame and short wheel base but my question is what effects a trailer has on the brake proprtioning of the tow vehicle.
At first it seem like the tongue weight of the trailer would move the balance to the back tires which has more weight. The tongue weight of trailer would also remove weight from the front tires.
However, does the force of the trailer pushing the vehicle forward cause additional weight to be applied to the front of the tow vehicle?

If the back tires of tow vehicle were locked in position and you pushed the trailer forwards it would cause the tow vehicle to sorta pivot around back tires and add weight to the front tires. Does this compensate for the tongue weight?

I ask because my k5 has D60 front, 14FF with discs rear and a prop valve correctly set for no trailer. It would be easy to adjust for braking with a trailer.

Get a load leveling hitch and don't worry about it.

I was more curious than I was worried. Are those load leveling hitches the ones that bolt into the bed? Or am I getting it mixed up with a gooseneck or fifth wheel?

You have a weight distributing hitch confused with gooseneck and/or fifth wheel. A WD hitch has two spring loaded bars which force some of the tongue weight forward of the hitch itself.

As far as the brakes go, with proper trailer brakes and a brake controller you shouldn't have to do a thing to your tow vehicle's brake system.
