hey everyone, i just finished rebuilding my 304 and it is all back together in the cj. the carb is a carter afb 600 cfm. i went to start the engine and while i am cranking it over and i hit the gas pedal, every few seconds it will spray gas straight up in a stream. it is coming from some small tubes either side of the primarys. what would cause that. no fuel is getting to the cylinders.

Are you sure it's the carb? I know that AFBs are big piles of shit, but that doesn't sound like a carb problem at all.Sounds like your timing is off. Are you sure you installed the distributor correctly, and not 180* out?

no, the timing is set correctly.
