Can anyone shed some light on the topic of Chevy V8 distributors? Specifically HEI vs non-HEI (the differences and which is better for a Chevota).

TIA

We run HEI in out Chevota - works like a charm - only had a problem when the coil unit in the cap shorted out, which is a common problem. I have heard folks say they are harder to water proof. No way would I use a distributor with points.

I'll take an HEI over points any day. Just carry a spare coil and ignition module, and your worries are over.

You gotta love the HEI! It's so damn reliable over most electronic ignitions, plus you can get spare parts from the junk yard cheap or free if you have pockets!
