What do you guys think about these?
http://www.avalancheengr.com/rockrings/imga0002.jpg

Got the idea from Co5K's site and his write up about shaving pigs.

Seems a little spendy for what they are but then again, I doubt I can build them for much less. I see the sad part of DIY is the waste from the plate after you cut out the outside ring and you can't use it to create anything else of the Rock Ring. Then you need bar stock to make the ring gear protector.

Anyone tried these? Good bad or indifferent. Seems like a cheap insurance policy to me.

Have not tried that one inparticular, but I have seen lots built on the same idea and had a set on my CJ2A

Lots of people forgo the ring and just tack the Barstock to Diff cover. I have seen them hit pretty damned hard with good results. The only draw back is of they do bend you are out the diff cover also.

I like them and will be building a set for my 44 and AMC20 HD

Keeps the ground clearence and protects the ring gear.

I built my own for my rear.I kept peeling the cover on the bottom. So I took 1/4" plate and made a paper pattern of the cover bolts and transfered to the plate. Then torched it out.Had to grind a little so it fit over the cover.I didn't do the piece going from top to bottom. It keeps the cover from peeling and leaking.I only did the bottom half of the diff.May build another one full around and with the pieace top to bottom.Blazin:rasta:

i am building one now, i am using 3/8ths plate, and building the whole cover out of it, you really don't save much money, and it can be quite time consuming, i am doing it because i wanted to, not to save money

This is a 44 axle in the picture but they offer a version for the Dana 60 and the cost is substaintially low as in I can buy two of these for the price of the Avalanche. But is it just me does the Avalanche looks beefier and stronger?

The Rock rings are machined from billit 3/4" steel, the r&p guard is 1/4" laser plate and the bolts are counter sunk stainless. Powder coated black.:)
