Well I just puled out my axel out of my fulsize 68 D-44 housing and I heard that you can remove the iner axel seal and just use the oil to lube the bearing in sted of re-packing with greas is this true any problems with that
thanks

I imagine it would leak like a stuck pig, enough grease leaks out of those closed knuckle frontends as it is I would think the gear oil would leak even faster. Also might be a little more likely to get water in the diff. Other than that I can't think of a problem with it.

Not sure if they are the same since you say it has an inner seal. My TJ only has an outer seal and the bearing is lubed by the gear oil.

Are you running one piece or 2 piece axles? If you are using the 2 piece axles, I wouldn't do it. The hub runs inside the outer seal and is not designed to keep oil so you'll fill your drums with oil.

D44's (rear) had 2-piece axles? I did not know that. I thought they all were 1-piece.

Yes, but make sure you keep the diff full. The nice thing about the greasable outers is they don't run dry from the inevitable leaky diff.
And yes, old jeep D44's had 2 piece axles 10 spline or 19 spline.
