: SYE kits, RE vs. JB?? is the RE kit strong enough?
Sharp 12-01-2001, 01:05 PM what are your views on the RE SYE strength wise?
i'm thinking of a JB kit but thats a lot of cash, and i doubt i'll ever wheel as hard as you and others with the RE kit. i'm also only running 33s and before i ever go up to 35s or larger i'd need a 8.8 rear end... so needless to say it won't be happening any time soon. and i've just got the traclock in the rear, no full locker. will i be well off with the RE kit or should i bite the bullet and get the JB kit?
i know there is no comparison between the 2 but the question is : is the JB needed or overkill?
oh, has anyone ever broken a RE kit or the shortened output shaft?
Alaska ZJ 12-01-2001, 01:24 PM from one newbie to another, try using the search for crying out loud.:flipoff2:
I have seen a few of the RE kits F up, They are worthless IMO
Why not go with Highangledriveline.com
He is even running a special right now I think. People really like his stuff also.
GonPostal 12-01-2001, 01:47 PM You gotta really fawk up intentionally to screw up a RE install. Cut a shaft, drill a hole, tap a hole. It's not rocket science. The RE SYE is no different than a Currie or a Tom Woods base SYE kit. They too use a stock shaft in their kits. You're not gaining any strength by using their base kits. Only difference is you pay them to make up for your insecurities in performing simple high school shop techniques in cutting, drilling and tapping.... sheesh...
WideJ 12-01-2001, 01:54 PM Hey GonPostal, the kits you mentioned come with main shafts that are MUCH stronger than stock. The RE kit leaves the stock shaft. I guess its all about if you want to temporarily solve a problem and pay for it in the future, or fork out the cash for the right kit. Do it right the first time!! I am running the JB kit and have had no problems. I beat the bejesus out of it. :nuke:
GonPostal 12-01-2001, 03:53 PM The JB and AA SYE kits DO incorporate a much larger and stronger tailshaft. That I'll give you.
However as I stated previously up above, the BASE Currie and Tom Wood's kits use a cut down STOCK tailshaft. Ever notice why they charge you a core? Same set up as the RE, except with RE you cut and tap the tailshaft yourself.... A stock shaft is a stock shaft, regardless of who cuts it....
H8monday 12-01-2001, 06:11 PM Collins brothers is having a sale on their HD SYE. They use a larger 32 spline output shaft, and a new tail shaft housing, and your choice of 1310 ,1330, 1350 CV Yoke. Its a pretty good looking kit, from the one I have seen. Its on sale right now for 259.95 on their website. That does not include a new drive shaft though.
I think Jesse is having a sale on SYE now also. And it does include a drive shaft
Po' riggity 12-02-2001, 07:32 AM I wouldnt go with the RE kit, although Ive seen it work. I went with the high angle driveline kit, and I couldn't be happier. Its a very strong kit, and Jess stands by his products. His rear CV shaft Ive got is very nicely built as well.
Scott :grinpimp:<><
NothernAZxj 12-02-2001, 08:54 AM Ive run the hell out of my RE cut and tap every 4+ trail I can get my tires on....errr....or off, It has worked flawlessly over the past 4 years. [img]
Sharp 12-02-2001, 11:00 AM i think i saw a pic of a JB shaft next to a Cut stock output shaft that was ready to get the re kit on it and the JB shaft was still alot shorter, so that should result in a longer drive shaft and less chance of vibes, and you don't have to point the pinion to the sky.
is there a length diff?
herzog 12-02-2001, 11:12 AM I run RE cut & tap. No problems at all. I don't even worry about it.
but as far as doing it right the first time, wouldn't that be somewhere along the lines of Dana300 or AtlasII?
So were all hypocrites. :D
G.C. Bandit 12-02-2001, 09:54 PM ive got the RE sye and have had no prob with it. And im not very nice to it
BlueYJ 12-03-2001, 08:20 AM Teh RE kit is fine. Unless they are giving you a heavy duty new shaft they are all the same. I just bent my shaft not to long ago, found another one real cheap, drill and tapped it and off I went.
BlueYJ:cool2:
GonPostal 12-03-2001, 08:35 AM Don't get me wrong.... I too feel the RE set up is fine. I run one as well and have beat the crap out of it.... still holding strong. I just wanted to clear up any misconceptions about it when people compare it to other SYE kits out there.
MudBunny 12-03-2001, 03:29 PM I've had my RE SYE kit in since February and have wheeled it hard with no problems whatsoever.
Why spend the extra money on the JB kit? RE makes a good quality product - I would recommend it.
NothernAZxj 12-03-2001, 04:21 PM The RE kit is very reliable like I said I have run it for 4 years, but I will be changing to the AA kit this week, I am putting together a grop buy on the AA short shaft kit this week for order next week the price will be 225.00 and 5.00 shipping....should I post the group buy here?
