: Offset wheel question
Little Red Zuk 07-30-2003, 10:59 AM Ok, I just put 2" offset wheels on the Zuk, and they seem to work well. However, I was wondering the effect that they would have on wheel bearings, and steering geometry. I searched, and no one posted whether it would shorten wheel bearing life considerably, or is that a general thing with bigger tires? I would think that it would due to the extra stresses placed on farther out on the axles/spindles. Also, has anyone noticed adverse differences to steering? I know I can turn sharper, but my caster is already so screwed up, steering is goofy to begin with. Is there any issues with the tires swinging out, and ackerman not being correct? Thanks, Daren
yea, it'll shorten them so badly that you should never drive it again, get the for sale sign's out and get that lil red POS out of the yard, matter of fact i'll come give you $50 for your hassles right now and take it off your hands :flipoff2:
you might get 175k instead of 225k out of them, but if you actually put that many miles on a sammi, i think you'll have deeper issues than that :flipoff2:
Little Red Zuk 07-30-2003, 11:25 AM Can't get rid of it, the Sub-turd is still broken:D
Besides, you hate the Zuk red :flipoff2:

it's growing on me... especially since the body's flawless on mine :flipoff2: and it's on bigger tires :flipoff2:
Little Red Zuk 07-30-2003, 11:35 AM My body was flawless too.... in 1988.
When are you gonna bring that thing up north so I can check it out? I'm still kicking around d44's (I know you think they're :rainbow: , but still better than zuk) or toy's or just put in moto's diffs and maybe some birf rings. Of course, the stock axles seem to holding up well at the mall. :D

did you know the weakest axle i owe is the 60 in the front of my powerstroke... because of those :rainbow: 30sp outers...
anyhow... the zuk's got toy axles with long's, i don't think it needed the longs since it'll never get wheeled hard enough
we've actually got a new kick front axle we'll be doing soon ;) so keep an eye out for it
Douglas 07-30-2003, 12:41 PM I run a 5 inch offset for about six months and haven't noticed anything bad happening. Exept mud coming into the cab and that's really not that bad.
Little Red Zuk 07-30-2003, 12:49 PM Never get wheeled hard enough..heheh. Kris will go out of town, the buggy will be in progress, and possibly someone with 38's on a zuk will egg you into doing something that I'll get good pictures of. :flipoff2: Anyway, if you have ever have stuff you wanna try out, my zuk could be at your disposal. Hopefully I'll have car trailer next month, so I won't have to be such a pussy on the trail. Since I'm still a zuk newbie, and it doesn't say Jeep anywhere on it, I'm still learning the damn little thing. :D
Little Red Zuk 07-30-2003, 06:22 PM Anybody else running 2 or 2.5 bs wheels? Just curious if I'll run into any problems other than regular zuk weak points.
killr-b 07-30-2003, 07:46 PM I run 2.5 inch back spaced wheels in addition to 2" wheel spacers on my yota axles. No problems yet, but only 4000 miles on it, but still no steering issues and I hit the pavment a couple times a week.
ghost dog 07-30-2003, 08:26 PM I go through axle parts so often it wouldn't matter if I ran .5" backspacing. Just run Em!
moto261 07-30-2003, 10:11 PM i ran them for a long time and they worked fine but your steering will be kinda bad kinda like wheel spacers
BTW your stock zuk is :rainbow:
:massey:
Little Red Zuk 07-31-2003, 12:52 PM At least I can say I am not a "Jeep person" just a Zuk owner that has a jeep too.:D

Little Red Zuk 07-31-2003, 01:15 PM It wears off... I haven't had a running jeep for over a year, hence I wheel the Zuk:flipoff2:
