I came across a low, low mileage vortec 4.3 with the CPI, I think its a 95, and I want to put it in my J10 that has a 4.2/T176/NP208 transfer case combo. What are my tranny options ( thinkin maybe the 700r4 that was in the s10 originally, or scrounging up a NV 4500)??? I want to keep this as cost effective as possible, so I dont want to buy adapters??? HELP! Any info on this, or suggestions would be great!!

HEY BIG J!! I know you don't wanna hear about adapters an such:rolleyes:, but I think there isn't much wiggle room there. I could very well be wrong though!
I bought an NV4500 cuz I was gonna put it behind my AMC360... but plans changed!:( Now I have a large and interesting doorstop! I was gonna hafta get a T-176 bellhousing and clutch stuff. You already have that & Advance has the adapter to mate your motor to an NV4500!! :D When it comes to the t-case... you have quite a few possibilities to choose from. I think it will be more dependant on what kinda wheelbase you have and driveline angles you may have to deal with. High Angle Driveline (www.highangledriveline.com) is an awesome source to solve any driveline issues you might have. Jess @ H.A.D. is the :nuke:!! They have some incredible sh@t that I am going to use on my beastie!! He is pretty quick to respond and will help you with any options or questions you may have.
Good luck with yer project!! TIGGER4X :jeep:

p.s. - if ya want an NV or are thinkin about it lemme know! ;)

Is it a NV4500 out of a Chevy, or Dodge?? Input spline count?? What about Output?? I think (notice I said think), that if its out of a Chevy, the correct bellhousing is in the j-yard(cheap), but will it attach to a NP208? (Mines a JEEP NP208) Are some parts scroungable from a chevy 208 to make it fit???? If its a Dodge, does it just bolt up to my NP208, and then I need an adapter bellhousing?? The reason I was thinkin 700r4 is it came originally in the car, which also had a NP231 behind it, which (I think???) has almost exactly the same bolt pattern as a NP208 with the exeption of like one hole??? SEE WHY I NEED HELP!!???

By the way, just got a 14 bolt out of a CUC-V today with 4.56s and a Detroit, taking to Sunray Monday to have Moser semi-float axles (same 6 bolt pattern as front D44) and 1/2 ton (read MUCH lighter!!!!) brakes installed, with a matching width to front. SHOULD be indestructable!!

That tranny is most likely a 4l60e(the electronic conrtolled version of the 700r4) Its a good tranny except you have to deal with all the electronics. the harness probably has this this big connector going to the tranny. If you go that way you will have to deal with a buffer and every time you change tire size or gears you have to purchase a new buffer so the thing can shift correctly. If you pulled your motor from a manual then you dont have to deal with the big plug on the harness and you can just get a 700r4 and not deal with the electronics. Jet performance does make this plug for the harness where you can swap over to a manual or non electronic auto and not worry about the computer tweeking out.(not to familiar about that though). Either way you still have to get a speed control for that thing. I have about $5k into my vortech v6 swap. has 4l60e adapted to dana 300. Had to have the tranny sent into the shop and have the output salft replaced. cost $250. I also replaced almost everything when I did the swap so thats why the cost is so high.

By the way mine came out of a 94 s-10. Also make shure you get the vin number of that thing. Do you know if it ends with a w or z?
