When he says things like this:

"I caution those who may try to take a speck out of the neighbor’s eye when they’ve got a log in their own."

He reminds me of Oprah's shrink Dr. Phil :D

But gay-rights activists took offense at Bush’s comment that “we’re all sinners,” interpreting the remark as directed at them.
“While we respect President Bush’s religious views, it is unbecoming of the president of the United States to characterize same-sex couples as ‘sinners,’” said Matt Foreman,

These morons just need something to bitch about. He clearly said "we're all", he wasn't "characterizing homosexual couples."

I love people who fail to listen to the content of a speech, and only seize upon a couple of soundbites in order to try and demonize (or deify, depending on their viewpoint) the speaker.

Once again I'm forced to wonder why the people against gay marriage don't simply push through civil union legislation, which would kill the whole gay marriage movement anyway.

Exactly why bring the whole ethics issue into it. There is a much easier way to get it done.

Personally, I'm in favor of gay marriage.
Why shouldn't they be miserable too?

But I do recognize that for a lot of people it's really a huge deal.

I think gays need to recognize that most people in our society are really protective of the institution of marriage.

And straights need to recognize that there are genuine issues of fairness having to do with the legal/civil aspects of marriage and gays shouldn't be denied the protections already afforded to straights.

I've always said that the hallmark of a fair deal is one which neither party is happy with and civil unions are exactly the sort of compromise that our society needs to get PAST this issue.
