I'm curious after seeing so much info about how 258's and 232's are close to the same if this would be feasible or worthwhile? I'm sure I'd get a heck of a jump in hp but are there any major reasons NOT to do this? seems like all the same attributes should apply.. better intakes, increased mileage more horses etc..
Thanks for input this is something I'm considering.
Also what's required on rebuild to convert from 232 to 258?
crank and rods?
got a good source for cranks? "not crank you friggin tweakers :flipoff2: "
hehe

It is the same motor other than size so whatever a 258 of that year needs so will yours. A 232 is a destroked 258. Bore is the same. If you are going to rebuild yours why not start with a complete 258? Or for that matter a 4.0 and use the 258 crank and get more cubes out of it? We sell pistons for the 258 crank into a 4.0 swap.
I have a 258 that went swimming (rusty combustion chambers, stuck rings etc.) shortly after a rebuild you can have for free if you're quick enough.

I spoke with wife tonight. It looks like when tax refund comes this year I'll be buying a new motor "not brand new" I would like the 4.0 with 258 parts etc. I'm not sure at this point how much i'll have to spend."maybe 2k" I've been looking for a short block 258 in great condition to put with 4.0 head. I mostly had wondered about the 232 since i have one with a bad head.. and the bottom really isn't too bad. "i've since thought i'd nix that since wifey's saying I can have tax dolla.. :D
Around Jan/feb I'll have close to 2K for whatever I decide on.. but it's looking good for a 4.2 with 4.0 heads.. that or a complete 4.0 "which I think would be worse according to what i've read"
I'll let you know on block.. I might accidently come across some cheap machine work.. and that would be a good start.. was it bored over? if so how much and would it need it again or rehoned? Appreciate the offer.. your not too far from me.. but I may have a friend even closer "walnut creek". I'll check with him late sunday or monday.
thanks for the help
