Ok, here's the question...is there a heavier wheelstud that can easily be adapted into a Jeep Grand Waggy front D44? I have used the D44 from a Waggy for the SAS on my 99 Tacoma and those 7/16" wheelstuds are pathetic.
I'm currently considering boring the wheelstud holes out to 19/32 and using the 3/4 ton (9/16") wheelstuds if you guys don't have a better solution, but figured I'd run it past you guys first.
Let me know.
Thanks,
David

I happen to have just been in the process of replacing my J20 9/16" wheel studs with 1/2"s from Summit. Try and find a 9/16" lugnut!
You can have the ones I was otherwise going to throw away if they'll work for you. Brand new, got them with me new hubs/rotors. (You pay shipping!)

1/2-20 is kinda the standard that I've seen. I would think it would hold up and it is alot more common.

are you breaking the 7/16 lugs regularly?
ive got alot of miles on FSJ axles with 7/16 studs, and ive never broken one.

Well, I've only broken one so far, but I just don't like those little bitty things... I have switched some of my 12mm Tacoma rear wheelstuds to 14mm from a Tahoe(?...not sure). I'm currently running 35x15.5's and going to a 36x14.5 as soon as I can afford them and those 7/16 studs just seem too week.
As for the guy with the J20...do those come with a 8 lug D44 similar to the 3/4 ton Chevy axles or are they a 6 lug like the Grand Waggy?
Thanks,
David

I've never broken one... Just keep 'em tight, they'll be O.K.
Unless you have a super-heavyweight rig (and you like to jump it a lot), I think you'd be snapping U-joints all over the place before you'll ever need to worry about shearing all 6 lug nuts on a front end wheel assembly...
Drilling and re-tapping is an option, but I doubt it'd gain you much real overal strength unless you have Warn alloy axleshafts and CTM U-joints. Even then, I bet you're still gonna be snapping U-joints and stubs first...

1978 J20 is 8 lug, my D60 rear from a Dodge is only 1/2", but 8 lug as well. (So I only have 15-16 of them or so)
