i want to buy the new body style trooper for a daily driver i think. i already have a 87 trooper but i was wondering what was the best year to buy of the new ones. i looked in car traders and my only concern is that they dont seem to hold there value to good. is there something i should now and any info on years is good. looking for most power, reliability, stoutness!

Not much help for you, but '98s are an odd ball year for gears and lockers

I can't say what year they are but I can say what to look for. I'm not certain if all have it but I now you can get the larger 3.5 V6 (235hp?) and the TOD (torque on demand).
From what I have seen between those two things and the simple addition of good tires and rear locker, you could just about get anywhere.
As for a daily driver the same thing aplies (sp?). The larger engine gives enough power to tow or get that heavy SOB moving good. Also the TOD, read all wheel drive, gives you better manuevering abilty than many SUVs, and can handle the every day road hassels.
I personly do not have a Trooper, but have had 4 Isuzus in the family, and have never had a problem with one in daily use. Of course that all changes in off-roading as you know. My two rodeos have lasted more that 150k with no mechanical issues.
As for them not holding thier value I believe that is just due to the fact they are not a popular SUV. But other things could contribute. I say if they don't hold thier value better for you, you can get one cheap and run ths S**T out of it.
Might want to check out 4x4WIRE, tons of troops.

look at the 94+ LS or SE models with the DOHC (dual Overhead Cam) 3.2L V-6
i just saw a good 94 LS for $3700 all power, giant electric sunroof...etc
good values and power in those similar years...94-96....those are pretty cheap now ;)

I'd look at a 95-97 limitd or LS model. You should be able to find an LSD and moonroof ( both very deisrable). I've got an '01, but still recommend the earlier models for a couple of reasons. Price is quite a bit higher for the 98+ models. The TOD system is great for the street, but IMO sucks for off road. The 3.5L engine has plenty of power, but some have reported durability issues. Just my 2 cents. I some here will have very differnt opinions. Mark
