Did a search first and got no results for what I want to know.

Just picked up an 82 CJ7 last night with a 350 swapped in and 33s for $1K CAN. The bodys a little rough, the chassis needs a couple of spots fixed, needs rear springs (thinking hd rear Chev truck), have to remove a nasty hockey puck lift (stacks of 3...) and it needs a rear d-shaft (the previous owner kept blowing them out).

What's the deal on mating a 350 to the T5? It looks like the guy has 2 bolts holding it together right now. Does it need an adapter or was the "mechanic" just lazy? Thinking of just swapping a TH350/205 in, but am concerned about length.

This is going to be a trail beast only and my YJ will continue to be the daily driver/recovery rig. Also, there's a Tuff Truck challenge here in Jan and figure this would make a good contender. :D TIA!

Swap in the TH350 and be done with it.

Then, take a sledgehammer to the T5 - you'll have the same result as the first time you stomp the gas if you leave it in there. The T5 is of marginal strength behind a 258. Put it behind a V8 and it will die a quick and inglorious death.

And 'mechanic' sounds like an extremely kind term here. 'Bozo' springs to my mind... :p

I run the TH350 behind a Chevy 400 with advanced adapters hooking me up to the Dana 300. The skid plate is still in its factory aft position, that is used for factory autos. Don't know the length differance on the NP203. If the joker that had it priviously kept blowing drive shafts check your pinion angle. It should be slightly below the drive shaft when sitting, and nearly straight when loaded up.
