: Nose Cone upgrade for early cruiser t-case
BJ On Roids 08-03-2003, 09:41 PM Short of buying the billet nose cone. Is there anything I can do to increase the strength of this item?
I was thinking of drilling the holes out and running larger bolts, and maybe shortening the cone itself by two or three inches to stop the leverage effect wallowing out the bolt holes?
Anyone done any cheap or quick mods to add reliability to this component?

this is not for my case, i always had a split case, but i recently got given an early case and was thinking about running it in a mild street driven rig with 35s and lockers. I need a street driven car as work is getting the poops with my kilometres travelled in the Work Hilux. Was thinking of a FJ45. Just worried about its reliability is all. Then again it may sit on my floor for 5 years and do nothing.
PMs cleaned stoner
SEND AWAY!!!
thanks for the advice on the NP205 upgrade kit. Available from any Ford. But heavy! :flipoff2:
So anyone else with any ideas?

LOL :flipoff2:
you guys scare me sometimes...
BJ On Roids 08-04-2003, 12:30 AM yeah, i was wondering if the case was up to the task probably not now, thinking about it. I might go a 5spd and split t-case...but $$.......
Correct me if im wrong but the front wheel drive section is entirely engaged and disengaged from within this nose cone piece??? seems pretty cool.
Frenchy, my POS is too tall geared for the street and the swampers flat spot, then things break and i get the shits with it :(

Yeah, I see what you mean... why wouldn't you build something for DD/ towing duties... a sixty-something or 75-something with a turbo ?
You can drill out the 8x1.25 bolt holes for a 10x1.25 helicoil for more stranght there...

Yes that is correct, there is a small shift fork in the nose cone that slides a collar over the front output shaft to engage it. Its been a while since I messed with a early case but what about using studs? Are you concerned mainly on the strenght of the entire unit or just the way it mounts up to the t-case?
dd113 08-04-2003, 08:44 AM Of all the things I would worry about the nose is not one of them. I hae seen the cases crack but in the middle of the case. For a DD see no issue. If you are really worried about it you could build a brace that goes from the nose all the back, either over or under the case, to the output bearing retainer and attach it there.

too expensive and im too tight. I saw a diesel 60 series today for $800 i think the split case is shagged. My mate is going to have a look at it. Id say its full of rust and an early 4 speed. But pretty decent price!!!

im talking about at the right price. It is harder to get an early style case than a split case, over here, but the problem is its a t-case, some people think they are made of gold :mad1: I found two whole vehicles cheap. But one has blown the case in half, i think something catastrophic happened. :flipoff2:
