: Whats the attraction to RCC's?
Skyetone 12-02-2001, 11:34 AM Hell I am bored in life.. Got a decent toy thats 223-1. Was thinking about "hell I autta enter some rock crawling comps next year just to see" Well then I really started thinking about it and thought that it was kinda self abusive to enter these things. Seriosly think about it this way.... there is uroc, warn,BFG,NWRCA,hell I know there is probably a dozen more. So you go and enter one of these comps and treak the piss outa your rig, spend i dunno 3k? rebuilding or upgrading it, you either place 25th or 1st. well 25th aint squat and first is what a winch that you already own? maybee some cash? If you are up in the rankings and or have a HELLA eye catching rig maybee you have a pic in a mag somewhere "woo-ho" So what is the point? Sounds like all you get is personal fun(hella $$$$) and maybee a SMALL amount of glory?
I guess what I am trying to ask is whats the attraction?
Belly Dragger 12-02-2001, 11:38 AM There isn't any. Go home.

Some events give out not huge but cash money for placings. Then there is all the cool sponser give aways and super deals. Think of rock crawling as NASCAR was in it's infancy. One day there will be rock crawling heros and images of super buggies on luch boxes. Not to mention big bucks.
Then again there is always the simple, works for me, bragging rights.
Gordon 12-02-2001, 11:53 AM I think the atraction is that you can build something in your garage to compete at the national level and be competitive. I mean as motorsports go sure you can race street stock on a 1/4 mile dirt oval for about the same money as you can compete in a season of arca for. But as the motorsports that only turn left go Nascar is the top dog, and that is a long long ways from street stock. For just a little more money than you can compete in Arca you could run formula ford or something but that is still a long ways from Indy cars. If you can win ARCA then that is it for rock crawling, that season you were the best/luckiest/most-dedicated competition rock crawler in the country. That is pretty cool.
FULLSIZE 12-02-2001, 12:05 PM with the cal rocs series its not much to enter and its a damn good time. my friend had a blast out at amador. its like the next step, your forced to challenge yourself to take the crazy lines and do it in a certain amout of time. you should give it a try. hell i might even give it a try this year.:D
Skyetone 12-02-2001, 12:29 PM Well see my point is exactly that most here do build out of our garages with whatever is left out of our paychecks. Most have a hard time in doing this so it takes a while to build a decent rig. Well then yes you go out and challange yourself to take the crazy lines and most break. you go home and hopefully fix it cheep and try in the next comp. If you aren't doing most of the series then you are just some guy having fun with a croud to yell for ya. That would be me... "oh there close to my town so I'll go play in this one" but those who are SERIOS and travel from state to state and compete to win the series really are only the ones who have some sort of sponcership. I do not. Maybee I could get one this way but I doubt it. I just think it's kinda a hype deal and yes mostly  bragging rights. Then there is whitch one to enter? Forgot ARCA and CalRoc but who gets the most poublic notice? II have to have spare axles, drivelines, cages, motors, t-cases, ext I may as well try and step up to the HIGHEST level, I don't have the $$$. Whats the overall hype? and bragging rights for a high dollar.
broncorob 12-02-2001, 12:43 PM Some of the guys are getting good exposure for their offroad shops or some new products they designed. Others do it for fun. It's just an expensive hobby. I've seen mutch more expensive hobbies and much cheaper.
I think you've answered your own questions tho. It's obviously not right for you so don't do it:rolleyes:
FatCity 12-02-2001, 12:59 PM Myself and Ian Lilljeblad do ARCA with no real sponsership, and have probably lost $$,000's, only bringing home money a couple of times.
I think the attraction is the actual competition part of things, it's sorta fun, and there's alot of good people involved that we never would have met otherwise.
NAA!!, who am I kidding, we're just a bunch of suckers with nothing better to do.

GearMan 12-02-2001, 03:11 PM until you have done it and had the RUSH of DOING it you cant understand. i have not won a darn thing but the people i have met at all the events are kewl and are what keep me wasting $$000 not to mention all the killer wheeling you get to do i will be in CAL ROCS and ARCA next year so it will be a busey year and a-lot of fun.
Jeepskickass 12-02-2001, 03:55 PM Been there, done it. Ass loads of money was spent. We didn't finish last, but not far from it, either. Would I do it again? Hell yeah, I would! Nothing like it in the world. Sure, we may never be truly competitive, but it's still hella fun to go out there and give your best. Put on a show. Watch the show. If you haven't done it, you just won't understand.
Now if we only had rear-steer...
heavytlc 12-02-2001, 04:23 PM Well lets see.It was a good excuse to buy a 3500 Dodge to tow with.(the shortest trip for me this year in ARCA was las cruses 1668mi)I get to wheel with some of the best trucks in the country,in some of the best places. Unlike a trail ride once you get moving you are gettin it on.I get to get drunk with kool people from the right coast (grew up in sac) In my present shape I am too fat to do the Ironman triathlon.
I also have to realize that befor I was a"competitor" my house was almost paid off,I hade no car payment, the dog always went with me when I went rockcrawling, and I only rolled 1 or 2 times a year.
Flash forward today I have a second mortgage ,a really fat truck payment, the dog is to old to go any more, and I am doing good if I only roll once a day.
If I hade it to do over I would not change much. Well maybe the mortgage.

VERY VERY FUNNY
Come on...don't you regret cutting up that FJ-45 some???
DAVID 12-02-2001, 05:21 PM THE ATTRACTION IS: HELLOF ALOT OF FUN, THE SENCE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT THAT YOU CAN BUILD SOMETHING THAT KICKS ASS, AND GETTING OUT AND ENJOYING YOUR JEEP.
THIS GUY NEEDS TO GO TO :rainbow: :rainbow: JU:flipoff2:
Skyetone 12-02-2001, 05:42 PM See i agree with the fun of hanging with alot of the "billy bad asses" of the sport. I don't in any way see a problem in beating the body pannels to hell on my ride. It gives me an excuse to tube the piss outa it. I am all about the fun. I may even play in UROC utah rock crawl next year, because it is close to me. I in no way am flaming anyones second morgage to play (hell I got my girl into it now... WRCC? :D ) It just is a decent conversation to bring up since alot of the guys here want to play next year and have played this year. I am mostly sick of the what springs work on this app. posts. Lets get back down to the nitty gritty of what POR should be and talk serios carnage and future fun. Just kinda trying to fuel the fire so we all get back to having fun and :mad3: the newbie shit.
