: 3rd Member Bearings
What exactly is the P/N for the bearings in the 3rd member? I am assuming they are Timken's? I think I might want to replace them with my new R & P but am very poor right now. Trying to get the best deal. Also, where is a good place to get them? Surely someone like Napa, Autozone or other big chain would carry them? I am looking to replace all the bearings in the Differential.
PTSchram 08-04-2003, 01:36 PM Larry:
I don't have the part numbers handy, but I've found the pricing at Motion Industries and Grainger to be second only to going straight to Timken. Once we dig up the part numbers, try industrial power transmission places.
How much does the entire set of bearings usually run?

It depends on the account you have with the shop, but I'd be surprised if even onesy twosying you'd have more than $50 for the carrier bearigns total, maybe another $25 for the pinion-worst case. Any more and you can buy Genyouwine Land Rover (with the pretty green and white box) for the same $.
I usually use Atlantic British or Rovers North as my worst case scenario.
onsafari 08-04-2003, 02:30 PM Larry,
If you can get the Timken part number Autozone should have them or can get them. They are the cheapest for Timken bearings around.

Cool that makes sense. Now what are the Timken P/N's so I can take care of this and someday have my truck running again?
Puffdragon 08-04-2003, 03:12 PM did some one just say grainger was cheap. What the hell was that about. time for someone to start shopping around more

Cheapest place I could find for 0-60 psi pressure gauges. compared to EVERYWHERE ELSE, Grainger was cheaper.
Motion or Bearings, inc (now Kaman Bearing technologies) will allmost always be less than NAPA for the same part.

J bradley 08-04-2003, 09:27 PM I have a full timken set across town ( think their Timken anyway they're brand new), I got them for a 24 spline rebuild which hasn't happened and now won't for a bit after my recent rover deep sinking which has left it with 2 flats and a partialy ripped-off front bull bar luckily now out of the river in an antbed/ flea infested lot with a bad starter now with freshly stripped-out starter mounting bolts, those allen headed bolty basturds!! Send me your address to tallbrad@hotmail.com asap and I'll either send you the part number or send you what I have in the morning whatever you want , no charge (I don't know how quickly you need them or how poor you are) I need some good kharma anyway :flipoff2: . Anyone have a used starter motor for a 1990 rrc to sell cheap and fast ?

m016324 08-05-2003, 04:36 AM brad I found several cheap starters on car-parts.com when mine went out on my truck. Some even came with warrenties. I got one for 60 bucks shipped so you should be able to find something relatively cheap there. Hope it helps and sorry for the thread hijack
ben
Never got part numbers for these things. Somebody has to have em'. Fess up so I can go down get some and have this damn truck put back together in another week. I've been 2 1/2 months without my truck. Starting to go through withdrawals!!:D
FrankenRover 08-10-2003, 09:57 AM Here are some part numbers for you, not sure if that is what you are looking for
Pinion bearings:
539707 and 539706 (which I believe are Timken numbers)
Carrier bearings:
RTC 2726 for up to 92 year model rangie
RTC 3095 for 93 on
(these are LR part numbers for sure).
Found this also that might help with the carrier bearings:
Timken bearings
2 sets in the rear and 2 sets in the front, each set has 1 cup and 1 cone.
Each set should cost around $10. For a 1995 Defender 90, each set consists of one # LM102949 and one #
LM102910.
For a 1990 Range Rover, each set consists of one # LM501349 and one # LM501310.
Hope this helps.
Billster
Thanks a ton, I owe you a beer at the rally. Now I'll have my junk together in time for the Rally!

Not sure my diff is from a '90 anymore since I originally got it from GBR already set up. Any idea at all which of the two sets of bearings would be for mine? Or should I just call GBR and ask him?
Edit: After thinking about this why are the bearings different for the different year rangies (10 spline vs. 24?) and why is the Defender P/N different as well? Seeing how all the diffs are basically interchangable.
redrangie 08-11-2003, 08:23 PM Well,
The only difference I know of is the 10 spline to 24 spline.
I have the numbers somewhere at work. ...
Sorry Larry, I just NOW looked at the thread.
Call me if you need the #'s still.

I now have the exact P/N's for all the Bearings in the Diff.
Carrier Bearings LM102949
Carrier Bearing Race LM102910
(You will need 2 of each of the above, Also Timken Set #47 includes bearing and race)
Inner Pinion Bearing HM801346X
Inner bearing race HM801310
(1 of each)
Outer Pinion Bearing M88046
Pinion Bearing Race M88010
(1 of each)
Now off to track these down. I will report what I find locally (Denver) and how much each cost. Hopefully this will help someone else in the future. At least in Denver seeing how we are the center of the World!!!
edit:
So far I have found the Timken Set #47 at Autozone for $16.99 and the Bearing Race M88010 at Autozone for $3.19. Still searching for the rest.

Call Rocky Mountain Driveline in Denver. They have them, except for the pinion I believe. I had them in 24hrs from them, including the ones they were out of stock on.

Richard Dekkard 08-12-2003, 03:33 PM dude!!! wtf.?????
call C H A R L I E.....
you could had that info and the bearings a week ago...
SeaRover 08-12-2003, 04:52 PM Larry - I've had great luck with Napa on most stuff - fwiw. after awhile they look forward to helping you with the rover - and I haven't felt like such a freak having to order stuff online and over the phone all the time. most napa's are franchised by single owners, which helps avoiding the feeling of handing money over to "the man".
same for stuff like u-joints, rotors, brake pads, filters (including fuel), and a whole lotta other basic junk i can't think of. their prices are competitive generally, and the quality has been good.
cheers,
isaac

Rich,
I know what parts I need, and I know what LR charges. They want around $80-$100 for the remaining bearings. I have possibly found them locally for about $60. I'm in no real big hurry as I have plenty of other things to do to my truck. I will most likely have my junk running sometimes this weekend.
pendy 08-12-2003, 10:39 PM LWG,
The pinion bearings are a english type pitch. So they are hard to source. Why didn't you make GBR sell you bearings at his cost with the replacement ring and pinion? It is a failed unit regardless and I would think he would do that for you.
As far as Charlie and bearings for your diff. Do not confuse his day job with you broken diff. He will source aftermarket bearings or tell you were to get them if they are available in Denver. You really need to just have Charlie do the R&P install and get some miles on the gears before you wheel with it. Thats my opinion. He will do it on the side and use your parts but I am sure you know this?
Noob with Tood
Fear Factory 08-12-2003, 10:59 PM Ditto to what pendy says. Whenever I've priced them out, including the expensive, hard to find pinion bearings it's been as cheap and easier to get the kit from GBR.

Your probably right, however I didn't do it. But I am positive even with the prices I have found I can beat his "wholesale" price. I think I will have about $100 in the bearings and he charges $150 retail. Doubtful his "Wholesale" price would be less. Plus shipping. I will most likely have the bearings tomorrow as I have managed to find all of them locally.
BTW, Charlie isn't building my diff....
Richard Dekkard 08-13-2003, 08:55 PM you did know that Sean is just taking the diff to charlie after you drop it off with him didnt you???
ROFL... just kidding... :flipoff2:
pendy 08-13-2003, 10:17 PM LWG,
GBR could sell you all the bearings and shims for less than 100 if he had a mind to. But you are right if you did not have them sent with the gears then it is not cost effective. Sorry to intrude with the idea of Charlie setting up your gears. None of my buisiness. Hope you get it going soon.
To much Tood

Resurrecting thread to get confirmation.
I'm going to install a 24 spline TT in a previously 10 spline third. I assume I need the 24-spline carrier bearings for the 24 spline TT, i.e. RTC3095.
Right?
Tobias
revor 08-18-2005, 12:02 PM Metric Rover diffs (RR and on)
Carrier Cone: LM102949
Carrier Cup: LM102910
Or a complete set: Set 47
Pinion Bearings
Gear side Cone: HM801346
Gear side Cone: HM801310
Yoke side Cone: HM88046
Yoke side Cup: HM88010
Pretty much industry standard numbers, they will cross between BCA, Timken, Kyoba or whatever is close by..
