after searching i found plenty of arguements that were more entertaining than informative
ok, using the RE long arm style, sched 40 is what i got. not taking it to the rubicon, but im not exactly the most sane person either:

If you want to use pipe I would atleast use sched. 80.

in one word...no but if you choose to do as you like, sleeve the lowers, they take tons of abuse and I've seen more of them bent and abused.....go hrew or dom and leave pipe to non essentials like skid plates and rocker nockers where they like abuse but failure won't result in trouble.....

Pipe vs. tube is not the issue. Wall thickness is the issue. .120 DOM will pretzel just as quickly as sch40 if it's run into a rock hard enough.
Go thicker. :)

I'm up to Sch160 with .25 angle gussets running the length. That's after pretzling gusseted .120 hrew, sch 40, 80, and 160.
So, no I don't think sch40 is strong enough.
i thought pipe was for water?

If you double it up say some 1" inside the 1.5" that would probably work fine. I agree though that sched 80 is better but it still needs to be doubled or tripled.
Since you are not gonna get a beefy schd at Home Depot, and have to go to the steel yard anyway, just go with DOM. The ability to sleeve the lowers with normal crap is worth the price difference. Yes, it'll cost more, but it won't take replacing pipe links, many times to cost more.
If you really want to save some bux, just DOM the bottom, and go crazy with 1-1/4 schd 160 on uppers.

I assume the reason you want to use pipe is cause it's cheaper, if that's the case I would suggest using 2 inch .25 wall square tube. It's cheap, it's strong, and people will make fun of you :flipoff2: seriously, I hear people sometimes giving people crap about square tube, it may not look bling but .25 wall will work just fine. Clayton's long arm kit actually uses 2" .25 wall. Now square tube roll-cages are another matter...

.250 wall DOM......nothing less for the lowers...
you can get it at your local steel shop for about $6 per foot
I used 2" o.d. .250 wall 4130 for my lowers and .120 wall 4130 for the uppers..

.250 for sure the saure works good as well and is cheap. but do yourself a favor and plate that POS cherokee frame. there supper thin and those stock mount brackets will rip off. and the RE arms will fit inside the right size sqaure tube.
