: Playing Policeman (again)...
ukjeeper 08-07-2003, 03:12 PM Pulling into the sports center to pick up my youngest son, i notice some other guy pulling up in HIS car to drop off his 5 year old girl at daycare. Just as i drive past his car window, i realise he's swilling down a beer!!
WTF?!?!? I park, grab some paper and a pen, walk back and get his license #. When he asks what i'm doing, i ask him if he's enjoying his beer, and ask him if his daughter is also enjoying have her dad drinking beer on the way to daycare! Also told him i was calling the PD!
I go back into the sports center, and call the PD. Give them his plate #, description, etc. Dunno if they caught up with him, but its was "interesting" he'd moved his car around the corner by the time i came out of the parking lot...
I just don't get it!
1) Drinking and driving.
2) While dropping off his daughter
3) ON FRONT OF A DAYCARE (where other kids are walking around)
He was begging me not to call the PD...........FAWK HIM!!!

Don'tcha love newbies?!?!? ;) A constant source of entertainment!!! :D And for Dumba$$, inc. We all joke around in here, but the idea of some moron sucking down a cold one on his way to dropping his kid off at daycare will bring down a fairly consistant response on this board (ie: :nuke: ). That condemnation will, i imagine, be extended to any A$$HAT who tries to defend him, or his actions.
And yes, i've had several beers while in my rig. Back at camp, end of the day, too fawkin lazy to set up my campchair.

Damage, Inc. 08-07-2003, 03:52 PM I'm not defending the guy, especially if he was drunk. I just feel that if you call the police on me simply because I have a beer in my hand you're asking for it. I may not necessarily be drunk. It might very well be my *first* beer. It could *also* be a non-alcoholic brew.
When I was in grade school kids that told on everyone were called 'tattle-tales' and got ridiculed, harassed, and beat up.
if you think that guy doesnt pose a problem you're wrong. hes likely an alcoholic. who the hell has a beer in the morning before they go to work? seriously, if hes dropping his kid off at daycare, hes on the way to work. probably starts his day with a couple of shots.

Great. How is someone supposed to determine this. Maybe the fact that he was DRINKING AND DRIVING is an indication of his altered state??
I just feel that if you call the police on me simply because I have a beer in my hand you're asking for it. I may not necessarily be drunk. It might very well be my *first* beer. It could *also* be a non-alcoholic brew.
It's still illegal, it's still in front of a school zone, and it's still in front of children. Maybe that's not a problem?
When I was in grade school kids that told on everyone were called 'tattle-tales' and got ridiculed, harassed, and beat up.
When I was in high school, kids that would drink and drive wound up dead, and killed other people in the process. What do you think is the lesser of two evils?

Most (not all, but most) of us, have graduated from grade school.
For what it's worth, I've had plenty of beers in my truck. I'll admit that on occasion I'm not above having a road soda on the way to a buddy's house. Hell, up till about three-four years ago, it was legal in AZ for anyone other than the driver to drink in a car.
But I sure as hell wouldn't do it with my, or anyone else's child in the car. I think that, and the fact that he was going to a daycare center, are what pushed this guy over the line.
It may have been his first beer. It may have been his 12th. It doesn't matter. The safety, and the impressionability of those children are what matters.

Keep that in mind when some drunk hits a car full of kids or your family and kills them all. I am sure that is better then being a tattle tale right. I mean after all why not just take some fucking responsabilty and not drink and drive...

i dunno. i personally dont think the lives of children are any more valuable than the lives of adults. drinking on the road ANYWHERE at any time is un-acceptable. no matter who's around.
ukjeeper 08-07-2003, 04:05 PM OK, for the hard of reading....
I actually posted a picture of the brand of beer he was drinking further up the thread!! Thats why i called the PD, because i realised it said "Stella Artois" on the can, not "Pepsi".
It COULD have been his 1st, or his 5th, or his 10th. I'm not interested in finding how many he's had (wouldn't want to "get my a$$ planted".... ), there's people who do that for us, we call them the police (i get the impression you might refer to them as "pigs") IF the PD found him before he left the scene, and he was sober, no harm done (except maybe he'll think again about drinking beer on the road again!), if he is over the limit, serves him fawking right.
And you ARE defending him. Saying it's wrong to "tattle" on some moron because he's drinking and driving, means you respect his decision to do it.

i dont drink and drive, not even 1 fucking beer and then drive.i dont drink in my car nor do i allow ANYONE to drink in my vehicle.i actualy like owning my vehicle. I get shit faced and then find a way home via a non-drunk person.
if i was UK i would have called the cops or depending on my mood i would have pulled him out of his car and beat the living fuck out of him for putting MY childs life and others in danger

You fucking retard. Some guy followed me to my office yesterday because I supposedly did something on the road that he didn't like. He spoke with our secretary and left before I even knew about it. He was wrong but regardless, she told me he was going to call the president of our company and the CHP on me.
Know what I said? Fine, let him. I wish I had had a chance to talk to him when he was here so I could have explained face to face how dangerous HE was being on the road without even realizing it but regardless, he has the right to complain to the police about me if he chooses.
When you complain about someone being unsafe or illegal, you turn them in. It's not tattling and it's not second grade where stealing your fucking crayons doesn't physically damage other families.

norton 08-07-2003, 09:40 PM In Texas, the first shooting involving the holder of a concealed carry permit happened in Dallas. A man in a car was in a small fender bender in traffic. The car that hit him left the scene, and the man followed the other driver. A few blocks away on another road, the fleeing person stopped, and as the guy behind him was writing down his license plate, genius gets out of his car, walks back and asks the guy what he is doing. Guy says, "writing down your license plate since you hit me and kept going." Genius says, "No you're not," and proceeds to reach in the car and beat the first guy. Severely beat him. Beat him so hard that they later found out that the retina in one of his eyes had become detached.
Guy number one had a concealed carry permit. He also has his pistol with him. He draws his weapon and puts a round through the the guys heart. Second guy dies. He dies because he is so insanely fucking stupid that he attacks someone who is writing down his license plate for leaving the scene of an accident.
Damage, you're the fucking stupid one if you get out of your car to "plant someone" or whatever the hell your phrase was. It's a real good way to wind up dead. And do you think the person who shoots you is going to get in trouble? Probably not (unless the incident happens in California). Don't be a fucktard.

Mustard Dog 08-07-2003, 09:44 PM Tim, you did the right thing bro. Good awn you;)
Eh OK the dude was drinking a beer behind the wheel. Personally I don't give a fawk - I've done it many times. I used to put back a tallboy of Bud every day on my way home from work. No big deal. I drove mostly backwoods country roads anyhow.
I don't think driving around with a beer in hand and a kid in the car is the smartest maneuver but it isn't the end of the world either. Yeah he's breaking a law. Is he drunk? He might, so right there is enough cause for concern. Better he get arrested than someone killed by his lack of judgement. Most likely though he's having A beer and it doesn't mean shit.
I get more pissed about the morons with their kids not belted in driving down the road. THOSE are some serious tards.

Yep, can honestly say that I have never drank alcohol in any vehicle I have owned. I would also say that assaulting someone for writing down your license plate number wouldn't be a very smart move either. There are a lot of things worth beating someone for and I don't think that is one of them.
As far as the drinking and driving goes, I would have done the same thing you did.
DaGimp 08-08-2003, 12:16 AM 1. Having A beer while driving isnt smart.
2. Driving after drinking is stupid (no matter how little)
3. Driving drunk is asking for it.
Doing any of the above around children or a place where there are lots of children is really asking for it.
I would have called too. But in general I let people make stupid mistake and pay the price. Its not my business to tell people how to live.

If the guy had been parked up somewhere by himself having a cold one, i would have just cruised on by and not cared. Its 90-100f over here this summer, a cold beer feels REAL good!
But when you add in the kid in the car, and he's driving it around a school zone, that changes things. I can't just see something like that and walk away. And i'm not going to go all vigilante and kick his a$$. Then you have to deal with an assault charge (maybe). Just get the PD over to do what they are paid (badly!) to do!

Actually, I'm pretty sure that even Montana has done away with this recently, just like AZ and CO did.
They were forced to by the witholding of Federal highway funds. The exact device that everyone bitched about Clinton, when he used said to force Montana into a 75mph speed limit.

Well, it's well known I don't like tattletales, but this is a little bit different situation than one discussed previously. This man's actions could have endangered you and yours. You're absolutely right to help enforce a law when the safety issue affects your right to live free.
Rip DeLips 08-08-2003, 05:26 AM You guys forget your rabies shots again this year??? Dayum!
Homey didn't say calling the cops was a bad idea, he merely pointed out that, if you so choose, make the call, but do it with some degree of stealth so as to not put yourself in harm's way.
I mean dayum people, you mean to tell me that confronting someone that you KNOW is drinking, and telling them that you are about to call the cops on them, is a good idea???
Things you know about the situation:
Dude is drinking a beer in his vehicle
Things you do NOT know about the situation:
Gun in the car?
Knife in the car?
Baseball bat in the car?
Psycopath in the car?
Is this a rationally thinking drinker or a violent drunk???
Calling the cops was the right thing to do obviously, but confronting the guy and telling him your intentions was about the dumbest thing to do, period. It was totally unecessary and could have gotten your ass in a very bad situation.

Listen at the time it was legal. Do you understand legal? Does that get through your thick petrified skull into you one track mind? That would be last summer that it still was legal. If they changed the law then I won't take advantage of the privilege next time I am home. Conforming to the law is one thing abusing it is quite another. proletariat 08-08-2003, 05:43 AM The UK has a little different culture about drinking and driving than the US. Here, almost everyone's done it once or twice, and it's a no no, but not neccesarily the ultimate reproachful act. (Speaking in generalities.) In the UK, from what I've heard, this is like THE deadly sin. Plus, the penalties are comparatively much more stiff than they are in the US. So, in the context of the UK culture, bravo. Good job for turning the guy in.

Maybe it's my backwoods, bucktoothed, redneck attitude but I say walk right up to the prick knock out his window, spit tabaccy juice in his left eye and tell him you're gonna sit on his drunk ass until the cops get there. It may not be the right approach but BY GOD I can say I did something about it! Too many people do nothing because it may cause them some aggravation or trouble, and that's why the drunks and the dopers are taking over the roads.
ukjeeper 08-08-2003, 06:07 AM I was just going to get the plate and make the call, but he asked what i was doing. I think he thought i was private security booking him for parking on a double yellow line (same as a red zone). I certainly didn't go back there with the intent of confronting him.
Having said that, sometimes you HAVE to confront people who may not be thinking straight. Remember the drunka$$ who ploughed through a wall about a month ago (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=164136) ?? He wanted me to winch his car off the wall, so he could leave before the cops showed up! Turned out he was 4 TIMES over the limit (a bit more than just "road soda"!!). Think i was going to let him leave?? FAWK NO!!
Could i live with myself knowing i'd let someone that drunk drive off and hit something else? Of course not.
Could i live with myself knowing this latest guy had dropped off his kid, and maybe creamed someone else later on?? See above.
It comes down to this, am i gonna watch a bad thing happen and walk away coz i don't wanna get involved, or because it might turn nasty??
Nope.

ukjeeper 08-08-2003, 06:26 AM BTW, for what its worth, my brother WAS almost at the end of a 3 year DUI ban when he got pulled over, 3 months left to go, and he's stupid enough to drive, UNinsured, UNlicensed, and with another cars tags on his car. Sentencing next month. He think he'll get a wrist slap, i think he's in for a shock (this is not his first ban!)
My brother in law refuses to allow him to drive his family, even when he still HAD a license, so do i. My brothers got heart of gold, but a liver of stone. I'll never trust him on the road. If i won't trust my own brother, you think i'm gonna trust some complete stranger with a can in his hand to share these streets??!!!

Quick story, and why I am the way I am about this...
I turned 16, had a shitty car, with a kick ass stereo. :D One day I notice this drugged out, known to be violent dude checking my car out one day. The next day my stereo is gone. Me being the uppity youngun I was, I found out where this guy lived and went to confront him (at his parents house). Knock, knock...nobody home, but hey, the door is unlocked...so I enter.
I'm just looking around the place hoping to find just one little thing from my car that was missing. I walk into his room and find nothing, till I happen to hit 'eject' on the tape player...IT"S THE FUCKING TAPE THAT WAS IN MY STEREO WHEN IT WAS STOLEN!!!
I call him later, he brings me my shit back, but says he can't pay for the broken window or the destroyed dash. Mom calls the law. Kid vows to 'fucking kill me' and proceeds to follow me in public, show up at places looking for me, bangs on my parents door trying to get me to come out. We get restraining order but that's not necessarily going to save your life. This dude was absolutely NUTSO I tell ya.
Two weeks later, he hacks off a kids ear with a f'n machete, yeah, a f'n machete. He was swinging for the throat but the kid turned his head just in time. Thankfully, nutso was quickly subdued by some bystanders before he could kill the guy. This is the same dude that vowed to kill me, and knew where I lived. Lucky for me, he's probably still in jail for that and all the other shit he got busted for.
All I'm saying is use your head and be carefull out there. There are some first rate whackos out there, and you have no idea if the guy you are about to confront is one or not.

I have had a beer in a car, as a passenger, but I don't boogy down the road tipping one back while I drive. If I did, I and someone turned my in, then I deserve it. IMHO, we spend too much time with tunnel vision these days. We (humans) have people getting robbed right next to us, but do nothing about it but watch. Everyone is about 'me', not the collective 'us'. That sucks! Then we bitch that the cops do nothing. There are only so many of them. We also have a responsibility to police ourselves, and our neighborhoods. That stupid mentality is why neighborhoods have crack houses, etc. If the neighborhood members actually did something themselves instead of figuring 'They ain't hurtin me right now', Things would be a lot different in this country

That's funny Hef, 'cuz I got called a fawking moron for calling in a guy that had his 1 year unbelted and climbing around in the back seat like a fawking circus monkey. This was apparently his RIGHT to do, and I was an asshole for calling 'the man' to have the government push it's rules and regulations on us, even though we don't agree with them. Apparently this is different somehow. I think it was even a few of the people here that are saying 'good job' to ukjeeper that busted my balls over the car seat issue. :shaking:
Bullshit bullshit bullshit. :shaking:
You never got called a moron, but were congratulated. Seriously, I don't remember ANYONE calling you a moron, or giving you any shit whatsoever. *I* got a little crucified for starting out "mind your own business". And, since I can't remember anyone having the sack to stand up on my side, but only *kind* of say something, I KNOW you didn't get called moron because that's not how I play.
Let's remember this right now Erich, you didn't get martyred at all buddy. :D

That doesn't look like condoning. That asked if they'd never done it. If they can be condescending like that and say they've NEVER had a beer at the wheel...or hell, for that matter, went to dinner, had a glass of wine then drove home. That's called drinking and driving. If you condemn someone else for that act when you yourself have done it, that's called condescending.
I have never had a glass of wine, or any other alcoholic beverage at dinner before driving home, and I have never had a beer or any other alcoholic beverage in my car, and I have never consumed any alcoholic or other judgement impairing substance before, while, or after driving.
I've seen folks driving with a beer in their hand. The last time, I had my passenger call the cops, while I followed the individual until dispatch talked the cruiser in. Then, I parked and gave a statement to the officer about what I saw.
Your attempt to accuse other members of this board of engagin in the same activity is an attempt to condone the activity and demonstrates to all your lack of common sense or conscience.

'Today I salute you Mr. calling the cops on a dude drinking and driving in front of a daycare center, dude!'
You really do have a hero/martyr complex. That shit will get you in trouble.
The only people calling 'moron' were YOU and :roxy:, both on the safety seat side. :shaking:
The fact that you remember it the other way around is perfect illustration. Good job hero. :flipoff2:
(don't take it too seriously now, I know your *type* does. ) :flipoff2:

I have a hero complex because I think we should care about what goes on around us, rather than just being selfish and thinking about me, me, me?
Uh, ok. I guess since you know all about my 'type' and who I am, you must be right. Funny I don't remember meeting you.
I'm interested to know if any of the others that have met me at meet and greet, etc also feel I have a 'hero/martyr complex'.

C'mon now, I figured you could take a little ribbing. The thread is posted, I let what I said stand. I think you're a caring person who has the best intentions. You're simply wrong. :D
Yeah, a few did agree with me. Good thing I'm a great debater when I set my mind to it. OTOH, did you notice the pure moral OUTRAGE of my opposition (not including you,)? I love to see that!
The bottom line is, you didn't get called moron or given any bullshit whatsoever. All the arguments against you were kept pretty straightforward except for one person's post. OTOH, the people against me got downright nasty. That's the point. ;)

Not you, you aren't in this and what possible ego-inflating nuerosis would possibly indicate to you you were included?

Well, the possibility of inbreeding in your family sure shows, regardless of their ignorance.
This is exactly why I made a blanket statement... because I knew some idiot like you would take it personally and assume I directed it at anyone in particular.
If you really didn't care about my opinion, then why the long spiel on it?
I never said anything about legality, you being a drunk, or that it would impair you. As a matter of fact, I don't think a beer could impair you anymore than your lack of intelligence does already.
Oh, and I am not from Wisconsin...
One last thing; There are only three dots (and on rare occasions four) in an ellipsis.
Actually my father is my mothers brother!!!!:flipoff2:
And after I was born they immediately gave me a bottle in front of me..... I mean frontal lobotomy.:flipoff2:
As for my lack of intelligence you could put that one on the NEA. But hey I get lots of money from wellfare to get by!!!!
Just think in a round about way you helped pay for my Jeep!!!!
I should thank you for that!!!:D
