View Full Version : buggy/truggy idea...
Alright i have a 78 luv 2wd that was rolled in my back yard (my mom whants me to get rid of it and of course im not:D ). So i was thinking about stripping it down dropping in a smallblock a 9" rear and some nice big tires (thinking 35s). But i was wondering how hard it is to fabrficate rollcages. I have done my own exaust stuff and bumpers out of heavy gage steel but i have never worked whith heavy tube. What kind of tube should i get for a truck that will wiegh about 2800lbs?

well to answer the original question, you can use pretty much whatever diameter tube you want 1.5" or bigger and you want at least .120 wall thickness, and you want at least HREW tubing NOT PIPE. Really tho, your gonna need to study up on cage design. Remember this cage has to protect your life. You cant just start bending up tubes and throwing em anywhere. And also what kind of bender are you using? if its one of the harbor freight style benders with the hydraulic ram that pushes into the tube, you might as well give up now, thats a pipe bender not a tube bender. the bender your gonna want is a JD2 or pro-tools style bender. Good Luck.
