ok its a 20 year old quadrajet on a 454 been rebuilt 3 or 4 times in the last 2 years and works like a champ afterwords. my ?? is can they wear out?? it seams after each rebuild it doesnt last nearly as long(the great running) and the accelerator pump has gone out tons of times. if they wear out can they be fixed or do i need 450$$ for a new one?? thanks:D

The biggest problem is the throttle shaft bushings. when the throttle shaft gets worn out enough air is leaked to screw up the metering. Other than that the biggest killer is over torquing and warping the body and lid.
You can get bushings installed for the shafts and any place that can do that will know how to straighten the body...

Haynes sells a good book on rebuilding Qjets, and has all the pitfalls to look out for. They also have a problem with internal leaking from capped and staked ports on the main body, in addtion to the throttle shadft bushings. The book also has tips on tuning the carb to perform better. I bought the book from Grand Theft Auto years ago, and it has paid for itself many times over. :skull:
