Did '85 Toyota P/U's and 4runner's come with a Auto transmission option? If they dont, what was the first year they did offer it? Thanks.

The A340F was first available in 1985 and you do not want one. They use a different transfer case than the manual transmissions and rob the 22RE of the little power that it has.

Toyota Model Year History (http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/faq/) I dunno, my buddy had an 85' with an auto and ran alot of trails (Rubicon, Dusy, Hammers........) with no problems at all  This was before 2x t-cases were so prevalent:eek:

:usa: I ran an auto trans in my '86 4Runner never had any trouble with it (clock was at 240,000 when I sold it). I love autos off road, I call them automatic gear reduction. On the down side you need to be up on it on the down hills. Made for an awsome rockcrawler even with the IFS (you get used to 3 wheelin') I don't know if they changed it from 85 to 86 but I sure enjoy my autos. :jeep3:
