: How big of a tire can a Toy 4cyl "spin" in mud?
VT_Toy 12-03-2001, 02:34 PM Here's a question for all you guys who run mud -
How big of a tire can a Toy 22RE "spin" ? Gearing can help a little, but you still need power to spin tires in the mud. Tell us what gears you're using so we can compare.
Also, is it true that Boggers need more power to spin them than a regular Swamper TSL?
The stock 22RE in my '88 seems to spin my 34 x 9.5 Swampers just fine with stock 4.10 gears. A friend of mine said he tried Q78s (35 x 11) with his 4.10 gears, but switched to 34 x .95s because he wasn't able spin the Q78s enough.
I can spin my 35x16 boggers just fine with 4.88's and dual cases...

A buddy of mine can spin his 38.5 SX's just fine with a 22R, dual cases, and 5.29's :)
SwampDonkey_jr 12-03-2001, 02:51 PM i got a 2l 4runner running 4:3 or 4:5's on 35's and it dont like the road to much especially in first. Offroad though it is a champ it was cruisin through stuff my friends V8 cruisers were getting caught in. It was (I think) due to the weight of the vehicle and size of the tire. I drove around in low ratio all the time and couldnt flick the tires like my mates but my baby still churned through the soggy stuff and i was the only one driving out of the holes.
so i dont rekon it matters to muck about ratios 4 off road ask long as your getting further than the next guy. haha
VT_Toy 12-03-2001, 02:53 PM DRM, are you in 2WD in that pic? The fronts are packed full of mud and aren't throwing any...???
Would you guess that the 35x16 Boggers probably require more power than 38.5x14.5 SXs to spin, because the Bogger is MUCH more agressive, right? The 38.5x14.5 SXs that I saw didn't really impress me as a MUD tire compared to other Swampers, much less the Boggers.
Do you need to engage the second low range to get them spinning? Or is lo-1 enough?
Al Kaholick 12-03-2001, 03:29 PM my old truck used to bog down like crazy with 33" bfg muds and 4.10's, since i hate mud though, my new truck hasnt seen anything significant
edit: it has a stock but tired 22R by the way

Ahhh haaaa! Now the "birfield king's" secret is out!!:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
I always thought I was spinning my tires just fine, with a 22r and 35's or 36's.
Then, after installing the 4.3 vortec and 37's I found out what spinning tires is all about. It's a lot more fun now...:D
ive seen my friends toy turn 39.5's with stock 22r and drive train all day long in the mud then put it out on the road and chirp 2nd in 2hi > its fuckin crazy , hes got a 22re with changed over to carb intake and electic fuel pump with a header and it just screams no other mods :flipoff2:
Al Kaholick 12-03-2001, 04:57 PM can you guys smell that?
kinda smells like...
hmm trying to figure it out
yup im pretty sure its bullshit i smell.
not calling you a liar, maybe theres something he didnt tell you but somehow i just dont think so, not with a stock drivetrain and 4 banger

Jeepmangled87 12-03-2001, 05:17 PM My friends toy motor a 22r to be exact put out, Im not playing 4 horse power! I dont think that thing could spin a tire, but if you had a good 22r I would say it could spin a 31 with a little bit of a problem, You might try throwing the 22r in the trash :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :rainbow: :rainbow: GAY POST
skinny 12-03-2001, 05:24 PM i think the only think a 22re could spin is a 19 inch dub, for the love of god u can buy a good lawnmower engine with more power, at least they make good boat anchors, wait a minute those gay fawks dont way enuff, throw it in the trash, those motors are:rainbow:
Jettech 12-03-2001, 05:29 PM Go check out the mud races and see if you find a 22r there:D you don't use triple cases either, sucks going thru mud at 190:1:D:D

lol :p
As was captioned that pic on the trail report I snagged it from... I was in 2wd trying to get my picture in one of the mags since a 4Wheeler or one of the other mag writers was standing there taking shots :D
I find that I can spin them just fine in 4wd single low - but it really depends on the thickness of the mud and if I have found bottom yet or not ;)
