go to www.advanceautoparts.com
they've got the best retial prices on winches i can find

warn 8274 $838.99 p/n 38361
warn 8000 xdi $681.99 p/n 28401
it sucks that there's none of these stores on the west coast yet....if you go in and talk to a manager they'll usually knock 10-20% off

hope that helps....later

Go big or go home....I run a Warn HS9500i...It pulls out all the heavier trucks with ease!

The XD8000i is a great choice, as any Warn winch over 8000 lbs would be...I think my next one will have an 8274, tho.

Wow, the 9500...isnt that a little over kill?? If i had a 74 blazer then i would put that on there, but a 9500 is a little much for the zuk isnt it??

the 8274 weighs 120 lbs.......30 + lbs over a 8000...I'm told a great winch though.....:D

I ran an 8274 on my Scout for quite a while, and it was always awesome. I bought a hs9500i for the sami, but havent tried it yet.

the 8274 is a really good winch....i have an original one from the late 70's....you can shave the extra 30 pounds by runnin a nylon rope instead of cable.....
the 8000 is pretty good too.....it's faster than the 9000 and believe it or not is just as fast as the hs9500 under load.....hs is faster free spool....

i have a buddy that runs a warn 6000lb on his zuk and it works just fine for the weight of a samurai. however i'd say spenth the extra $100 and get the 8000lb so you can pull your buddy in the heavier rig out. just my op.

i run the 8274 on mine and it seams just fine and if you run with any j:confused::confused:ps you may need to have a stand up other then the laydown just a thought if you just plan to pull your self out and trying to save weight then go with laydown if your not go with the 8274 cause if your like me and dont get stuck much and others do you may need it :massey:

Buddy of mine has a Warn 9000xi or something like that - it is pretty sweet - Fastest reel-in I've ever seen on a winch! I like the sealed solelnoids, too.

Maybe because it is too heavy and blocks 2/3 of the rad

That's the HS9500i. And if it's the fastest reel-in you've ever seen, find someone with an 8274 (or the ancient 5687) and enjoy the show. It's faster. Not a LOT faster - but faster.

Personally, I like my Superwinch X9. I was a little hesitant to buy one at first over warn, but I've used it hard and it's held up very well. Plus, you can get an OX of a winch from www.uswinch.com for around $635... and it isn't slow as christmas like the REP series ramsey's.

I found something interesting out aobut electric winches, too. Warn/Ramsey winches STALL at their rating (an M8000 stalls at 8K of pull) but superwinch gives you the RATED LINE PULL (i.e. my 9000lb. winch stalls at 11,900 pounds of pull). I know what it tkaes, too. It took a extended cab, diesel dually to stall my X9 USING A SNATCH BLOCK... and that thing was STUCK!

I ran a warn 5687 (that's the "its so old it doesnt have solenoids" version of the 8274) on my CJ5, and it was strong as an ox... my buddies "8000" pound warn winch doesn't appear to pull anywhere NEAR as hard as that behemoth did. If you get a planetary warn winch, get at least the M8000... other than the 9000+ rated ones, they don't appear to pull anywhere near what they're rated to.

As far as weight, the 8274 weighs around 130 lbs. with 150' of steel cable. The M8000 and a superwinch X9 are both around 80-90. But I wouldn't be worried about the wieght. The primary problem with the 8274 style winches is size. It's a lot harder to fit one of those suckers in front of a sammy or toy than a slim little planetary winch. On a jeep or FJ40, where you have 18" of frame-rail to play with in front of the grille, it's a different story.

Hey Mudlite,
Why would you care about heavy? You've got horsepower...
As to blocking 2/3rds of the rad, two things:
1.) It actually blocks 63/96ths of the radiator
2.) Don't you need an excuse to "upgrade" your cooling system anyways?

Oh and Rudezuk,

I'm sure everyone will give me a hard time about this one.. but this seems to be a pretty good deal. www.thinkjeep.com has a new Milemarker electric on some promo sale. $399 for an 8000#. Sure, its not a Warn.. but maybe it would make a good 'rear' winch or something.. sheesh.

I don't care, but the guy who is asking doesn't have my Hp, so to suggest it would be wrong for me.

No , 2/3 is about right. And my cooling system is as big as I need it. Do you think I run a stock rad with the 4.3? NOT.:flipoff2:

Actually I like the 6000 Warn. It would be plenty for a Zuk and seems to have a faster line speed than the 8000.

I have the good ol' cheap and incredibly slow Ramsey REP8000. Mine was $399 a few years ago, but I think they're priced a little higher now. Sure it's slow, but I only use it once or twice a year, usually to pull somebody else.

I like my 8274 but if youre gonna go with the standard style get a 9500. You can always use it on another rig and you never know when you might need the power. I know this sound like I just said the above to seel them but here it is anyway. I have a spare 8274 with a f'd up cable for $400 and my buddy has a 9500i brand new. never even unspooled the cable. He needs money and he would take $600 for it. E-mail metalifred @aol.com if youre intersted. Also, do you guys ever actually use your rear winch? I was gonna put one on the back but I've never had a situation where I would need it.
