Okay well to start off with, I am not a very mechanically inclined person. I more then willing to learn new things, but have never really had the time to learn to tinker with cars. So I will get down to it. I own a 1984 FJ60 Toyota Land Cruiser, has about 89,000 miles (yeah its a sweet deal). Anyways I love my LC and I would much rather fix my problem then sell the vehicle. Here is the problem, the previous owner before me, has replaced the stock Carberator ( if i misspelled that I apologize) with an aftermarket one. Off the top of my head I do not remember the brand, well along with replacing the carberator, he took out all the old "linkage" <----my own terminology. I have never seen what the stock system looks like. But the mechanic who helped me said it had all been gutted and this guy had rigged a single peice of cable running from the carb. to the gas pedal. The problem I keep having is that this cable keeps fraying and breaking. The mechanic I have been working with has tried a number of things to try and fix the problem. The cable was fraying up next the carberator, but he did some welding to strengthen it, now its fraying down by the pedal up against the firewall. What we think the problem now is, that the pedal, which had been replaced by a Toyota dealership, this was done while my parents were still driving it so I am not too sure on where they got it. But the gas pedal appears like it might be pulling the cable at an angle and therefore making it rub against the firewall and fraying it. So that is my problem at this current stage. I had considered looking into going back to a stock carberator, but I didn't know if you could get one with all the necessary linkage. If anyone is willing to help me out or just point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I would suggest getting a generic throttle cable (parts store). It should have a hard yet flexable "sleeve" over the cable.
For a quick fix hit the bicycle shop and get a brake or shifter cable.
Just pay close attention to the method of conecting the cable to the carb/pedal. You should be able to rig it up pretty easy.
I had the same problem with my 74 CJ5. Good luck and dont be afraid to ask questions.

You definitely do not need to switch carbs back just to go back to the original cable... more than likely you will encounter the same problem with that one as well.
As said above, go get yourself a throttle cable from the local Kragen, Advance, PepBoys, etc and give that a try. If the cable is pulled tight across a sharp piece of metal, try to get some sort of insulator (maybe try a small piece of closed cell foam, or even just some cardboard bent over the sharp piece and duck tape it on).
Good luck.. no worries :)
FYI - My throttle cable is completely frayed on my 43 Willy's and I will be doing the same thing here very shortly...

I would buy a Lokar cable. You can shorten them to whatever length you need.

For an FJ60, stockcarb will be an Aisin. www.sor.com will have everything you need, although pricey (and shipping WILL be $$$). you can also post in the land crusier section...lots of very knowledgeable people over there that can help you out.
You may be running a Weber or a Holley right now. If you go back to the mechanical linkage and stock carb, you should be fine. Post in the Cruiser section first before buying from SOR...odds are you can find someone on here who has everything you need...for a fraction of SOR's price.

I greatly appreciate everyone's feedback on my problem. Hopefully I can fix the problem using your guy's suggestions. Because I really do love my cruiser and it would be nice to have it for a while, because I would love to do some more work to it. But thanks again to everyone. I will start checking out the cruiser section of the forum.
